Is anyone watching Sicko on Showtime? |
|
I'm sure most have already, but..OMG!!! They're showing the vast differences between the US "healthcare system" (if you can really call it that) and the "socialist" healthcare systems in Canada, England, France. iNstead of having some pencil neck deny your coverage due to their determination, you would simply go to a local clinic and not worry about having a monsterous medical bill...
I'm just dumbfounded. No wonder the GOP hates anything that would actually HELP people like universal healthcare--they wouldn't make any MONEY from it!!! Is this just plain criminal or what???

1. Think of the money it costs just to move the paper around. |
|
...and the **only** point of moving the paper around?
So medical insurance companies (and pharmaceuticals) can make a profit off of our NEED.

2. True. Once universal single-payor healthcare is a reality, |
|
all that $$ from the PHARMA and INSURANCE lobbies will be history.

3. We've been trying to tell you that, |
|
Over cries of socialism, for a long time.
I would rather have my system than have an insurance company decide what is or isn't cost effective.
The whole world has drug price caps, too.......except for the US. And no, you're not paying for research. You are paying for advertising and greed.

8. actually we are paying for both |
|
which is a real problem. A realistic cap would likely be between what Canada pays and what we pay.

4. Short answer: Yes. Long answer: You bet your ass it is. |
|
Longer Answer: The GOP is all about Big Business, and the bottom line for their corporate buddies. That is why Reagan went on his union-crushing binge, why the GOP favors tax cuts for the wealthy and not for the middle or lower class, and why they don't want national health care: It cuts into businesses profits. The businesses that they (and their friends) run. The businesses that lobby and spend hundreds of millions of dollars to politicians to ensure that the status quo is retained.
Evil fucks.

bring it on!
Really is an outrageous film. It truly shows just how corrupt our political class is and how screwed up are priorities are. It should be required watching for every American.

11. the part that had me almost crying |
|
was when Michael Moore took some of the people he had introduced earlier in the movie to Cuba, and the Cubans were more than happy to treat them well and made their conditions better. Thankfully we actually have a President who actually WANTS to help us with healthcare :bounce:

10. My 12yo daughter is watching it with me. She told me that recently, a boy she goes to |
|
school with took 2-3 days off school to go to Mexico for a cast on his arm because it was cheaper than getting it here. We live in the DFW area, so this would be a 10-12 hour drive each way. I've seen this before, but I think it's been eye-opening for her.

12. I watched it for the 3rd time on Friday. |
|
I pick up a couple more tidbits to be outraged at with each viewing. Excellent documentary that should piss every single one of us off.
