Ohio woman pleads guilty to exercising 73-year-old husband to death

CHARDON, Ohio - A woman has pleaded guilty to reckless homicide for exercising her 73-year-old husband to death in a swimming pool, repeatedly refusing to let him leave the water.

Surveillance video showed Christine Newton-John, 41, pulling James Mason around the pool by his arms and legs, said Middlefield police Chief Joseph Stehlik.

The chief said he counted 43 times in which Newton-John prevented her husband from leaving the water, and Mason rested his head on the side of the pool several times while gasping for breath.

"The video is bone-chilling," Stehlik said. "The whole case is very sinister."

3. I HATE it when the media tries to inject sex into a genuinely sad or horrifying story...

...there was a Bloomberg a few weeks ago about "Japanese Housewives Desperate After Currency Scheme Collapses." Oooooh, housewives being desperate! Eva Longoria! Cougars and the like! Grrrrowwl!

Turns out a Japanese Company that called itself an "asset manager" pulled a Bernie Madoff and suckered 37 Japanese investors , more than half of them women, into losing most or all of their financial assets. What the fuck is sexy about that?

Now this one--a woman "excercises" her husband to death? Either I'm nuts, or that title has innuendo written all over it--it's the first thing I thought of when I spotted it, which I'm sure is what sells newspapers and internet advertising space. There's nothing wrong with suggestiveness, but it does annoy me when the story itself is so sad, or in this case, horrific.

change his/her name. I wondered how a woman would be strong enough to manhandle a guy (even an old fart) and keep him from getting out of a pool 43 times--mystery solved.
