MSNBC just reported that idiot Gov. Mark Hoover-Sanford (SC)
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 10:03 AM by Are_grits_groceries
is going to turn down the stimulus money. I am looking for other sources.

Luckily, Rep. James Clyburn put a clause in the bill that would allow towns,
and other entities to bypass the governor to get the money.

We have almost 10% unemployment, and he is grandstanding for power in the Rethug party.

2. This is his shot at stardom--he needs it, after he had that painful 20-second brain fart
on camera last fall, when he couldn't come up with one thing McCain would do differently from Chimpster. He's not a particularly bright man, I gather.

27. He's not a Republican
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 11:46 AM by SCantiGOP
He's a hard core libertarian who runs as a Republican. The Republicans in the legislature hate him far worse than the Democrats. The legislature is 60% GOP, and they have overridden some of his vetoes unanimously. One year he vetoed the entire state budget, and once they overrode 102 of his 106 vetoes. His main priority is school vouchers so we can pay rich people to send their kids to school and there will be no middle class lobby for public school funding. But, he is serving the last two years of his second term, so there is speculation he may be looking at a bid for the White House. I would love to see him and Palin on a ticket together: they would carry Alaska, Utah and South Carolina.

on edit: He is being ignored about this. The Republican Treasurer is on TV talking about the safeguards he is putting in place to track how the money is spent. And, there is a bill in the SC legislature saying that, for purposes of the stimulus money, the legislature is declared the 'chief executive' who will take custody of the funds. The man's a joke. He forgot that he married big money and thinks he's an example of a hard-working American making it big.

3. Fine! I hope the rest of them follow suit.
These bigots are sticking out like sore thumbs and they should be exposed for what they are. Let him cut off his nose to spite his face.

He's going to look like an ass when all the others claim their money.

16. They know they will be defended by their supporters who are clinging so desperately to brown hate.
It is true with the puke fools I work with. Lot's of talking points about taxes and liberals and all of the old phrases from the 1970s. But at the heart of it is racism. That is the glue that holds the republican party together. Well, here in California a whole lot of the middle class will get IOUs instead of state tax refunds. It's gonna be hard for these people to continue to sublimate their anger solely through hate of melanin and homosexuals.

17. Republican ideologues that refuse to accept that
the supply side dogma they have relied on forever is wrong. According to a CNN report last night, South Carolina has the 3rd or 4th highest unemployment rate of any state. If the report is true, the governor is putting this GOP purity stunt ahead of the state's welfare. It is amazing to watch the supply siders reactions when political and economic reality hit them in the face.

19. I feel sorry for those who don't believe in puke ideology..
and have none for those who who consistently vote against their own or their neighbors best interests.

It'd be interesting if those who don't agree would gather up their pitchforks, torches, tar and feather and have themselves a good old march on the state capital.

20. Actually this is a win for him playing to his base. He can refuse the money, and
say see I stood up to the dems, while on the other hand they still get the money because of Clyburn's clause. We all know how they spin the facts and that's what I see happening with all this grandstanding.

21. Thank goodness for Rep. Clyburn.
I wonder how much of the money will be able to bypass the State. I'll bet they figure out how to get most of it anyway. I hope the media keeps Sanford in the spotlight & points out that the local folks get their money in spite of him. I'd hate to see him spin it, at the same time reaping the benefits of the stimulus.

He won't accept the stimulus, but any of you socialists who want to take that filthy, filthy gummint lucre, step right up. Sanford will cynically keep his greedy little mitts "clean" on this one.
