1. Well, it does look more "green" than the average aircraft. (n/t)

Been there, done that
I flew to Iceland in a plane, like that. When I left, I flew out on a cargo flight. We sat, strapped seats that were little more than netting. Most memorable.

4. I never had to fly in gear
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 07:25 PM by underpants
my last flight home from Germany was in a 757 PACKED and I got the inside of the 7 wide aisle-all the Desert Storm guys got to go first (this was 1993)

the airline was Evergreen-had never heard of it. Turns out the owner is a big contributor (guess to whom) and makes BANK off these kinds of flights.

8. I think I was wearing dress blues
At least on the way to duty in Iceland. I remember it was cold in that cargo plane. There were only about 6 passengers and NO bathroom facilities. I was warned, ahead of time, and kept the liquids to a minimum.

12. I got to Ramstein and asked the guy "Do I HAVE to fly in greens?"
he gave me a noncommital answer so they went back in the trunk of the car of the guy who gave me a ride

The flight was 8 hours long-we circled Pittsburgh for an hour...on our way to Philly

3. People have asked me why I would jump out of a perfectly good airplane.
I always responded, " You haven't been on very many military aircraft have you."

19. Every landing you can walk away from is a good landing..
especially in the military.

The military pilots never seemed to worry much about soft landings.

6. Hey Squids traveled like that as well
only worse. My flight out of Saudi in 96 was Sardineville in a C-130, the sweetest flight I ever took.

Note to fake patriots: The best way to support the troops is to join them.

18. Sure. But sometimes we got to...
...stretch out. That was the life. Providing of course one wasn't claustrophobic! :D

The picture was captioned "typical Navy racks", but these particular guys were lucky. They were on the end.
When they looked out of their curtains they only saw a regular wall instead of another wall of snorin' sailors.

7. The Joy of a C17....
packed and racked for those long intercontinental flights. Only better flights involve wearing a parachute and exiting a "High Performance Aircraft" while in flight....

9. At least there are no kids running up/down the aisles or babies screaming
I been on a few rotators with dependents on them, they are not fun. But I also flown on 130's, 5's, 141, KC-10, 135's, etc.

10. Misty water colored memories
"I'm over the North Pole in a C-135 that's been in service at least long as I have. I've got the warmest place on this rambling wreak, on top of a humongous cargo crate. Every pay check a fortune, every meal a feast, every day an adventure. I'm getting too old for this shit."

16. In the 70s
made a flight from Diego Garcia to Clark AFB in the Philippines on a cargo configured C-141. Metal bench seat on the a/c fusilage side with a full load of cargo pallets in the bay. No heat if I remember correctly.
