Limbaugh: Trying To Understand A Dem Like Trying To Understand A Murderer Or Rapist
Source: Huffington Post

Coming off of a tone-death cartoon that compared the author of the stimulus bill with a crazed, shot-dead chimpanzee, it seemed likely that, for the time being, provocative political metaphors would be put on hold. But on his radio show Thursday, Rush Limbaugh pushed the envelope once more. As spotted first by Media Matters:

RL: This is... it's about power, it's about control. These people genuinely look out over this country from their lofty perches. They don't like what they see. Otherwise...

Caller: So they can go somewhere else! Like, I don't understand, why do they have to stay here? Like, leave us alone!

RL: At this point, at this point Gretchen, I don't care about the why. They're not going to leave. They're trying to control it. At this point, the only thing is they must be stopped!

Caller: I agree...

RL: Within the confines of our Constitution, and the political arena of ideas, they must be stopped. I don't care why they see this country the way they see it. I don't care why a murderer does it. I don't care why a rapist does it. I don't care why this Muslim guy offed his wife's head. The NOW gang is out there saying 'oh, that's not domestic violence, that's just, uh, that's just...' what do they call it? 'Culturally honor killing. Or this woman was going to divorce him, that's against the law. That's his diversity.' I don't care, I don't care why anymore. If I figure it out, I'll be glad to tell you because it's interesting to know, but it doesn't matter in terms of defeating them.

The defense seems obvious. The remark came in the context of trying to understand the motives of Democrats who have disdain for America. "Who cares what drives a murderer, rapist or Democrat," Rush seemed to be saying, "just stop them from doing what they're doing." But, on the heels of Wednesday's New York Post cartoon, one has to wonder what's going on with all the lurid political analogies.

3. Wonder if he knows that many of us Democrats dislike him as much as he does us?
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 04:18 PM by LakeSamish706
I would dearly love to know why the Republicans don't leave actually. They are in the minority, they are responsible for the past 8 years, they are the ones that have almost destroyed this country. Many try to disassociate themselves from the Bush Administration, but he ran under a Republican banner so good luck with that.

4. Caller is still calling for us to leave - shouldn't they leave at this point?
Did anyone send them a memo that they lost? Because it seems they need one.

6. I was reading an interesting article about right-wing yesterday
The article was written for an English Journal and it was titled http://books.google.com/books?id=H2hRAVkc0nMC&pg=PA22&lpg=PA22&dq=patricia+j+williams+hate+radio&source=bl&ots=gWhOoKohQk&sig=CInAmsgMjbosQyrqzpBjEGOvep0&hl=en&ei=3s2dSanALuH8tgeumITqBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=3&ct=result#PPA22,M1">"Hate Radio" written by Patricia J. Williams, a Law Professor who currently writes a column at The Nation. The reason I bring up this article is that in the article, Williams wrote about what the draw of Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, etc is: they project a message of victimhood to their mostly white, mostly male constituents. The message is that they are being mistreated, abused, and cheated out of their due- which is of course ludicrous when you think of how high up there a white male is compared to say a black lesbian, like Prof. Williams. She points out that "hate radio," programs that encourage violence and dehumanizes "the other" has led to horrible things in the past. She uses Hitler, Stalin, and more recently the Rwandan Genocide.

17. Consider Rush in the following light
From Wikipedia

Fascism is an authoritarian nationalist ideology focused on
solving economic, political, and social problems that its
supporters see as causing national decline or decadence.
Fascists aim to create a single-party state in which the
government is led by a dictator who seeks unity by requiring
individuals to subordinate self-interest to the collective
interest of the nation, a race or even a social class. Fascist
movements promote violent conflict between nations, political
factions, and races as part of a social Darwinist view that
conflict between these groups is natural and a part of
evolution.

Fascist governments permanently forbid and suppress all
criticism and opposition to the government and the fascist
movement. Fascist movements oppose any ideology or political
system that gives direct political power to people as
individuals rather than as a collective through the state
(liberalism, democracy, individualism); that is deemed
detrimental to national identity and unity (class conflict,
communism, internationalism, laissez-faire capitalism); that
protects and enhances the power of "weak" people
rather than promoting "strong" people
(egalitarianism); that may oppose major changes to
institutions and cultural values that it proposes
(conservatism) and that undermine the military strength and
military ambitions of the nation (pacifism).

According to Paxton, fascism is
a form of political behavior marked by obsessive preoccupation
with community decline, humiliation or victimhood and by
compensatory cults of unity, energy and purity, in which a
mass-based party of committed nationalist militants, working
in uneasy but effective collaboration with traditional elites,
abandons democratic liberties and pursues with redemptive
violence and without ethical or legal restraints goals of
internal cleansing and external expansion.

This is what it is really all about folks.

27. republicans and right-wing crazies *love* being victims.
Their one permanent stance is outraged victimhood. Their cry is "Waaaah! It's not fair!" (a cry familiar to parents of small children). If someone says "Happy Holidays" there is suddenly a War On Christmas. Crazy!

This is a political party consisting of rich, white, straight, Christian men, the very group that has enjoyed countless privileges for decades, and yet we are to believe that they are a beleaguered, depressed minority. Oh, and the media is "in the tank" for Obama, despite the 2-1 edge enjoyed by republicans in terms of TV guest appearances.

Exactly how stupid do they think we are?

The poor man has overcompensated for his feeling of inadequacy and sexual frustration, by becoming an overgrown bag of hot air. I feel sad for the ole boy. He's pretty pathetic.
