I'm not a "good mind". I *try*, but I am wholely not qualified.

To all of the 'good minds' who used to frequent DU, but don't so much anymore, I can only forlornly call "Come back, Sheba" (it was a movie... big unnecessary *hint*)

To all of the 'good minds' who frequent and contribute to this board still.....greatest of thanks for sharing your insights, experience....it's invaluable!

1. It was......"Come Back, Little Sheba"!
Release Date:24 December 1952 (USA)

Made by Paramount Pictures and tells the story of an emotionally remote recovering alcoholic and his dowdy, unambitious wife face a personal crisis when they take in an attractive lodger.

It stars Burt Lancaster and Shirley Booth with Terry Moore and Richard Jaeckel.

The movie was adapted by Ketti Frings from the play of the same name by William Inge and was directed by Daniel Mann.

It won the Academy Award for Best Actress (Shirley Booth) and was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Terry Moore) and Best Film Editing. It was also entered into the 1953 Cannes Film Festival. <1>

A television version was made in 1977, starring Laurence Olivier, Joanne Woodward and Carrie Fisher. It was directed by Silvio Narizzano.

4. Shirley Booth's career ended up being the maid for "Mr. Baxter" ...I don't remember
the name of the sitcom....

I guess it was "work" for an actress....but she may as well been a real-life maid vs. a sit-com maid?

7. TV series Hazel (1961-66)
Actually, she was the star of the sitcom.

She retired after appearing in the TV series A Touch of Grace (1973).

14. I think that was an English actress
on Bewitched. Damned if I can remember her name, though. A few glasses of wine will do that. :)

13. Hi, Frenchie!
We exchanged PMs, IIRC, a few months back. Thanks again for your supportive words.

I must admit that I didn't know you were born during the administration of President deGaulle!

And that picture of your daughter is too cute for words. I hope she's had a good time at Harvard. I know I did when I was at the law school.

:hi:

16. lol! Yes, I was.....
Which is why I have a special affinity for Old American Movies and sitcoms! Cause that partially how I learned English when I came to the states....watching a lot of television in the 70s!

The Daughter found herself a husband at Harvard, so I guess she had fun! LOL!
She's on to Graduate school in September! :)

2. It's a conglomeration of minds, made up of several
really good and effective ones (Nance is a good example) who write and blog; many others who march and yell and still others who just support with good karma and quiet help.

DU has been, and probably will be the best on the interwebs for a long, long time. The newbies get better, younger and more involved - it is so wonderful to us oldies who marched in the 60's and yelled in the 70's, prayed in the 80's, cried in the 90's and despaired since 2000 to see the upsurge!

10. There are definitely more Repig/FReep trolls around
than when I first signed up four years ago. More Blue Dog types, too. Some of the "kids" (I am neither old nor young at this point in my life) are amazing and give me great hope. Many were clearly moved to come to DU by the election and that's a good thing. The trolls are promptly TSd or eventually go away, and there always those who go out of their way to pick peripheral arguments but DU is, overall, a GREAT and progressive/liberal community filled with wonderful people.

The true mark of a good mind is being able to recognize wisdom when it sees it and be willing to learn from it. I would say that you are doing just that, and that makes you a very good mind indeed.
