Over the years, I've found Newsweek to be somewhat centrist, or left-leaning, if anything. Time, on the other hand, seems to be firmly right-wing.
Am I right, or did I just read the wrong issues?

1. It's a fairly subtle difference, but you're about right. |
|
I'd say Newsweek is for centrist Dems and Time for centrist Republicans. Both are pretty wishy-washy and will gloss over uncomfortable truths and go along with the White House on most things.

2. Neither is a reliable source for news. |

But Time has a long history of cowardice/opportunism. Before the 2004 election, Time withheld information of Rove's involvement in the outing of Valerie Plame, thereby helping to assure a Bush reelection. Then, in 2005, it did a "profile" (puff piece) on Ann Coulter. Of course, now that Obama is President, Time has fired conservative columnists Krauthammer and Kristol. How courageous!

8. I cancelled my subscription after 20 years |

with time still left on my subscription. I got the Ann Coulter issue and that was the end. There is no valid reason for putting Ann Coulter on the cover. None. Go ahead and give the conservative viewpoint. Fine. However, there are standards. Coulter doesn't meet them. I expected to see Fred Phelps on the cover next. When there are so many alternatives, why spend money to spread hatred and misinformation? I decided to get out before I got my TIME with Fred Phelps on the cover.

I stopped reading both as an undergraduate (eons ago). Now I read the odd article if someone posts a link.

It was long before Coulter was on the cover. I subscribed until they had some article that really pissed me off and I canceled my subscription and stopped reading their rag.

6. Both are garbage. Newsweek turned into a "People"-type scrap of paper. |

7. that is my general sense |
|
My family subscribes to Newsweek. I generally stop by the drug store to look through the magazines on a weekly basis. You can't always tell from flipping through that Time is a right wing publication. However, if you read it closely you will find that it definitely leans right. My observation is that there is more fluff in Time than in Newsweek. I just saw a Time with Kate Winslet on the cover. I would subscribe to People magazine if I were interested in celebrity news.

9. Well, Times is owned by Time-Warner who also owns CNN..... |
|
While Newsweek is owned by Wapo Stockholders who happen to also own Majority shares in GE, aka, NBC, MSNBC and CNBC. So, it is a issue of choosing your poison.
Newsweek seems more palatable than Times, but only on its face.

Although I think both are rather too celebrity obsessed.
