A Letter To My CEO I Emailed and Mailed Him Today |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 09:13 PM by rsmith6621
I goes like this.....
From......Me
To........Him Mr. CEO
March 4th, 2009
Dear Sir,
I am writing you today to express my concern over recent cuts in staff in the corporate office. The 50 positions that were cut in terms of cost mounted to to an average of $32500.00 which includes the cost of social security and benefits.
Looking at payroll related expenses last year I see that the 26 executive management which includes yourself sir took bonuses of $40.00000.00 plus and average of $350000.00 in salaried payroll. The majority of positions that were cut were greatly appreciated by the staff in my department as they helped to serve as a backup and took up the workload in a critical safety environment, the last time I checked SAFETY IS STILL THE FIRST CONSIDERATION BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE....correct??
These positions could have been saved with a sacrifice and I believe a sign of real leadership by each executive writing a check back to the company of ten percent of theirs and your bonuses and it would have done wonders for company moral in theses difficult times.
I would like you to take time and consider this letter and restoring these positions. The talent in my department sacrificed was some of the finest the company had to offer. I would welcome an opportunity to petition you in person.
Thanks for listening.
Signed ME

If your lucky he or his staff will ignore your letter. If your not lucky, he or his staff will respond to it by laying you off next.

I'm curious, what kind of business is this, and what kind of safety functions did the laid-off staff have? If you can convince them that there is a for-real safety problem as a result of losing staff, maybe something will change (but I'm not hopeful). They won't sacrifice their bonuses, though. They never do.

....Regardless it would take months and what my union would call harassment on their part to get rid of me....as far as a layoff they would have start 20 positions below me first per contract.

It's been my experience that they DO take safety arguments very seriously. And if you have union protection at least your job is relatively safe.

17. Cool. You've got a union contract |
|
and I assume it has a "just cause" provision.

4. That's good, you used numbers and everything |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 09:22 PM by Canuckistanian
Numbers are all these guys worry about. As long as it's coming into THEIR bank account. I doubt it will do much good and it will probably lead to the demise of your position due to "regrettable necessary cutbacks".
But at you least spoke up.
I hope you cc'ed it to all the VP's and senior managers. THAT would have been fun.
You're a brave person.

Fire you? Rehire the fired? Have everyone return part of their bonuses and salaries?? I am just curious what you expect after making this bold move- I, of course, want a happy ending for your company....and for all of us!! Way to speak up for what you believe!!!:toast: :bounce: :yourock:

9. In my experience the big guys don't want anyone to point out their weaknesses |

It's like the story of the Emperor's new clothes. They know it was wrong but don't want it pointed out to them. Greed is a terrible thing.

11. omg - you wrote my letter! |
|
I wrote almost the same letter. It's at home but I haven't had the guts to send it. If I do, I may have to do so anonymously as I am not protected by any union. I feel like a chicken shit doing it that way though.
What would I accomplish? Maybe nothing but they want to get rid of 100 positions in the nursing department. It more than likely would not be nurses but probably support staff. In the meantime, our CNO (who makes over $250,00/year) got a 33% bonus for her one year mark. We get nothing. No raises in two years. The CEO makes over $500,000/yr and got a near equivalent bonus. Pretty gross.

14. Next time you write a letter to a suit... |
|
...you'd be wise to at least have someone proofread it. While the sentiments are valid, that letter is a goddamned mess.

16. Why? Because proper use of language is ESSENTIAL to being taken seriously. |
|
I'm not sure why you're offended by my point, considering the fact that you didn't write the letter, but I'll answer your question anyway. It's very simple. If you write like a child, your opinion will be dismissed like that of a child. The purpose of a letter is to communicate thoughts. If you think it's unimportant for those thoughts to be presented clearly and with proper grammar, perhaps you shouldn't write any letters.

18. I had no problem understanding.. |
|
what the writer was communicating. I ascertained by your comment that your intent was to disparage the writer. That type of response is something I would expect from a child. If that is not the case, perhaps you did not present your thoughts clearly.

20. If you want to defend sloppiness, be my guest. |
|
When I receive correspondence that obviously wasn't even re-read by the writer, I don't take it very seriously. If it wasn't worth his/her effort, it's not worth mine either.
FWIW, I also wouldn't pay much attention to a jeans-and-flip-flop-clad individual in a business meeting. YMMV.

21. I agree with you even if you are a Troglodyte. The message was a very good one |
|
but the way it was expressed took away from its impact.
Thanks to rsmith for having the guts to pen it.
