Is Rush Limbaugh headed for a big fall?
Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 10:24 PM by Archae
I've seen this before, including with political pundits.
They get far too "full of themselves" (as my Mother puts it,) and sooner or later they crash and burn.

Remember Morton Downey Jr? He got drunk and tried to fake an attack by neo-Nazis, dying of lung cancer after ending his career playing an obnoxious TV reporter.
(Like in Predator 2, where Danny Glover Jr punched his lights out.) :-)

Geraldo...Al Capone's vault and his TV series talk show that went off the deep end with "Satanic abuse."

Any ideas as to what will happen to Rush?
I say one of these days he is found OD'd on his Oxycontin.
He ends the rest of his days doing late-night infomercials for OTC boner pills. (like the ones pitched by "Smilin' Bob.")

I really think this is the time to bring up all the old DJ 'Jeff' stuff from Pittsburgh and that arrest on the river walk for soliciting an underage male who was, what, a police decoy?

But with Rush that whole sordid episode still seems to be 'don't ask, don't tell' for some odd reason. Based on that there are a lot of neighborhoods he can't live because they are too close to a school or church, or day care.

Lots of interesting stuff there.

Surprised more people don't know about this, but I'm sure a lot of money has gone into suppressing it.

9. If/When Democrats win more Senate seats in 2010 Rush will go off the deep end
That could push him over the top.

After almost 2 years of ranting, to have Repukes lose any semblance of having influence in D.C. might then cause him to step over some lines that even 20,000 ditto heads won't be able to pull him back from.

He will end up on a satellite radio station that almost nobody will listen too.

Our focus should be on getting things done for the people and winning more seats in 2010. Little else matters.

12. It's a race
He's morbidly obese. Morbidly, as in fat enough to cause his early death.

Or, he could get caught up in another scandal or two before his heart explodes. There's his combination of the monstrous ego and the lonely-guy-who-fails-at-relationships thing, and that's gotta be almost as deadly as the couple hundred pounds of fat...

while giving his speech? He was bouncing all over the place. He doesn't seem to do that when he's sitting on his radio station throne. Then he seems able to remain relatively calm.

35. The more I see of that jumping around the more unnatural it looks
to me. He is on the edge of out of control. I wondered about drugs. I know that when you are on oxy you have more energy than usual and that is what it reminded me of. One of these days he is going to go down to the islands and someone will follow him and take pictures. Then he will end up on the long list of sex offenders or drug addicts that comprise the GOP.

22. I agree, but don't forget
that it was the administration that intervened when Coughlin tried to keep his evil ministry going by mailing out a newsletter. THAT was the move that finally silenced him for good.

I don't see anything like that happening to Limbaugh. I'm not convinced he'll fold unless his health does him in.

With Rush now officially tagged as the GOP's leader, it's becoming increasingly clear that he's leading the party even further into the ditch.

While Rush is popular with the base, with his dittoheads; among the general public, he's one of the few political figures that is actually more unpopular than George W. Bush.

On top of that, what happened with Michael Steele showed that the entire party is beholden to him, and is currently forced to kiss his ass. I don't know about you, but if I was someone like Boehner, McConnell, or any of the other GOP bigwigs, I'd be getting jealous of Limbaugh's power.

If the GOP wants to win elections, they're going to have to get rid of him. Rush, by becoming such an influence on the base and forcing traditional party power-mongers to kiss his ring, has made himself a target.

I'll bet that they'll get real creative in finding ways to knock him down a few pegs. Maybe we'll hear more about his Viagra vacations in the Dominican Republic...

I work with people who truly believe every lie out of this turd's mouth. They parrot him exactly and are as full of hate and venom as he is. It's really scary to see what can happen to people who don't have enough brain cells to realize what a pantload Rush is.

40. No, I think not.
He controls the "base". That base will always be there unless the Republican party as a whole repudiates the guy, calls his policy ideas dead and moves on. That is never going to happen. Limbaugh will have his audience no matter what, he'll take this party down and feel good about it. He has turned the tables on them in a way they never expected. Instead of the party using his show to facilitate their message and views, he is now using the party to facilitate his message and views. You have to grudgingly admire someone who can make themselves the most important person in a major political party without ever having been elected to anything. He's not going away anytime soon.
