Sonograms, ‘child porn’ in North Dakota
http://www.dailytargum.com/opinions/sonograms%252C_child_porn-1.1594062

Depending on the situation, there is excitement surrounding a woman finding out that she is with child. A sonogram, or picture of the fetus, is taken when a pregnant woman has her first visit to the doctor. These pictures are usually found on the refrigerator of a house, framed on a desk in an office or more commonly posted on a personal profile on the Internet. These practices have become a norm when finding out that your family is expecting a new addition. Pregnant women in North Dakota may now not be able to celebrate and show off their unborn baby the way society has traditionally accepted.

The North Dakota House of Representatives passed a bill that states a picture of a fertilized egg is now considered child pornography. It is now going to the North Dakota Senate to be voted on. This bill, if passed, will make it possible for women and men who have a sonogram as their profile picture on Facebook to be arrested and put on a sex offender registry list. This law stems from the one that was recently passed declaring that a fertilized egg now has full human rights. Sen. Dan Ruby, R.- Minot, passed both laws and has been very vocal in trying to pass laws that ban abortion. There is also an extension of these laws that would create more worry for women besides illegal abortions. There may be a clause in the bill that would rule women who have miscarriages as criminally negligent.

These laws have been made with out being thought completely through about how they will affect the women of North Dakota. Besides taking away their freedom of choice, they are punishing them for something they cannot even control. Women do not wish for miscarriages, and many are emotionally distressed when they have one. Adding criminal charges to their upset is completely ridiculous. Trying to make a sonogram classified as child porn is creating something out of nothing. All this law will do is put innocent, proud parents who are expecting on a sex offender list with those who molest children and rape innocent people. This is opening a can of worms bigger than they expect: All science books would have to be changed because of pictures of unborn children pictured to teach biology, genetics and health.

4. This. Is. Not. Satire.
Furthermore, I would think that the mere act of making the sonogram would constitute creating child porn.

12. Good! And then maybe they'll finally start arresting the delivery doctors for molestation!
The doctors and nurses in delivery should have their eyes sewn shut so that they cannot be witness to the pornography of a naked baby, nor to continue to get their rocks off looking at a naked woman.

And they shouldn't be allowed to touch the baby, either.

Neither should the mother - the baby should be kept in a box until it is old enough to wipe and clean itself.

13. This isn't literally true, you know.
What IS true is that Dan Ruby put forth a law saying that a fertilized egg is a human.
He helped pass another law about child pornography.

He didn't write a law saying that a picture of an egg now constitutes child porn. That's a conclusion others have drawn.

Who would miss it?

Or we could build a wall around it, and dump all the republicans there, giving them their wacko fundie utopia, and getting them out of our hair. (Of course we'd have to remove the nukes first, but it could be done.)

We should really save the animals first. They'd kill 'em all outside of two weeks if we didn't.

Better yet, let's give them Alcatraz instead. The rest of the world would see it as a public service and leave us alone. There would be no more threat to us from the rest of the world. So, we could redirect all our nukes there to keep them in line in case any of them tried to swim for it.

28. The bill says nothing about pornography
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 11:57 AM by Incitatus
The writer is suggesting that since a fetus would legally be considered a human under the bill with all rights of a human, then technically a nude picture of it would be child porn.

Rep. Dan Ruby introduced the "Personhood" bill, which affirms the rights of pre-born humans and states: "For purposes of interpretation of the constitution and laws of North Dakota, it is the intent of the legislative assembly that an individual, a person, when the context indicates that a reference to an individual is intended, or a human being includes any organism with the genome of homo sapiens."

Seems like a stretch to me.

I'm more interested in the bill's making any fetus that happens to pass through the state a naturalized citizen.

31. Ha! Anti-choice crowd didn't think things through (again).

The North Dakota bill that would grant fertilized eggs equal rights to human beings means that a sonogram would be a picture of a naked minor. Hence, child pornography.

As another poster mentioned above, the abortion protestors with their mangled fetus pics would all be arrested for distribution of snuff child porn.

Thank you North Dakota for demonstrating how ridiculous the anti-choicers positions are.

49. I WANT this to happen!
Don't put me on ignore. I have perfectly logical reasons to be this way.

This is bullshit. We know it's bullshit. Most fundamentalists know it's bullshit. The people who have "JONSMOM" license plates definitely know it's bullshit, and the entire legal profession knows it's bullshit. I can't imagine a pervert in the world who would get turned on by a sonogram.

So this is what I want to happen: I want there to be a massive Child Porn raid on a doctor's office. I want them to bust the doctors and nurses for aiding and abetting, the sonographers for producing child porn and the patients for having it done. I want a huge frog march. Handcuffs and all. I want these thirty or forty people to stand before a judge and tell him they were arrested for sonography. It will take about two seconds for the judge to nullify the law and send those nice people home, records expunged. And then I want it on the front page of every newspaper, the front cover of Time Magazine and the top of the hour on every tv news program in the country.

Because even if a fertilized egg has full human rights, taking a nude picture of one without sexual intent is not child porn--if it was, my mom with all those damn pictures of us in the bathtub is in for a lot of very hard time.
