Isn't it about time to apply the PATRIOT Act to the economic terrorists who have brought
this country, and the rest of the world, to the brink of disaster?

how many more lost jobs/homes/lives will it take before the likes of Cramer/Stanford/Madoff, and the real powers behind those monsters, are forced to tell us how they made off with ALL OUR MONEY?

as the notes of Yoo, etal demonstrate, the President can do ANYTHING he wants to anyone.

why doesn't he start doing so before it's too late?

if it isn't, already

1. This is why I oppose closing Gitmo
It's just the spot to keep the Robber Barons. A nice sunny Federal Facility with all sorts of water sports to pass the time.

This is where Stanford & Madoff and the like belong.

2. that's right. what's a little waterboarding between enemy economic combatants?
any doubt at all that this whole thing is nothing but a mega-scale criminal enterprise?

lots of threads/links here to support the idea

4. No
We have other laws that are more than adequate for fraud, if only someone would actually prosecute.

The PATRIOT ACT should be repealed.

6. I agree on repeal, but until it happens, USE it on the real terrorists.
Use the other laws, as well, like RICO

as someone else said, confiscating their assets is all well and good, but they're HIDDEN, and it will take "enhanced interrogation techniques" to ferret out the whereabouts

cherchez l'argent

7. No!
Using it legitimizes it. It must be shunned and discarded into the wastebin of history where it belongs. It is a cursed sword - once picked up, it and not its wielder becomes the master.

8. Yes!
I can dream, can't I

I realize it's not going to happen, but I fantasize about certain things, like all of those criminals, along with the likes of Kissinger, and other monsters from Iran/Contra/Guatemala/Operation Condor, etc., ending up, at the very least, in the Hague, if not in the home countries of those who they ordered tortured/murdered/raped....

5. I agree, but rich white men will never be occupants of Gitmo
Even though in many ways their crimes were just as helpful to Osama Bin Laden as the hijackers.

9. That's what I've always said -- "Bankrupting the Treasury should at least be Treason--!!!"
What about those Constitutional oaths to defend the Constitution ---

against all enemies, domestic and foreign?

WASHINGTON – The CIA destroyed a dozen videotapes of harsh interrogations of terror suspects, according to documents filed Friday in a lawsuit over the government's treatment of detainees. The 12 tapes were part of a larger collection of 92 videotapes of terror suspects that the CIA destroyed. The extent of the tape destruction was disclosed through a suit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against the government.

Heavily redacted papers filed in the case indicate a dozen destroyed tapes show so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques."

The CIA's enhanced interrogation methods are secret, but they once included waterboarding, which simulates drowning.
