Something about boots...just heard them perform it live on Letterman. Horrible, contrived, poppy little tune. Yuck.

2. May grow on you. Most U2 songs I don't like when I first hear them. Give it a chance* |
|
*I didn't hear it - haven't heard any of their new music.

4. I don't think that will happen with this one. |
|
There's just nothing interesting about it at all. Sounds like they copied bits and pieces from songs by other people.

I know they were plugging their new CD, but geez, couldn't they have thrown us a bone with some of the REALLY old stuff? Hell, I would have settled for a freakin' medley of the old stuff.

I guess that's your opinion. As I said in another reply; there wasn't anything interesting about it. Sounded like bits and pieces of songs by other bands.

12. I lost interest with Rattle and Hum |
|
and admit never gave it a full listen, altho it documented the Joshua Tree tour, right?
It lacked the passion and intensity that made U2 compelling from the beginning. The "we're going commerical to make fun of going commerical" thang went right over my head....

I don't know why they released that song as the first single, but I said the same thing about "Discotheque" and "The Fly" when they were released.

15. I have to agree with you, but that is the worst song on the album... |
|
...The rest is quite good. I usually don't say that about a U2 album after the first listen, but this one is very good.

attended Davos this year. I want to know how much he pays the Africans who produce his wife's designer clothing and I want to know how tied up he was in Ireland's collapsing buisness/economic sector. U2 has been irrelevant since the 80's and his blatant capitalism has been a little jarring in recent years. Granted, it is sometimes tempered with charity, but I have a hard time taking the former tortured conscience of the British New Wave seriously anymore. Sad thing is I used to like 'em back when both they and I were young punks.
