Saudi men arrested for seeking female writer's autograph :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

(CNN) -- Saudi Arabia's religious police detained two male novelists for questioning last week after they attempted to get the autograph of a female writer at a book fair in Riyadh, according to local media reports.

According to the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Watan, Abdu Khal and Abdullah Thabet approached female writer Halima Muzfar when they were stopped by police.

Both novelists, who were held for questioning but not charged with a crime, are demanding an apology from the conservative Muslim kingdom's Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.

The commission, feared by many Saudis, is made up of several thousand religious policemen charged with, among other things, enforcement of dress codes, mandatory observance of prayer times and segregation of the sexes.

Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam called Wahhabism and punishes unrelated men and women who are caught mingling in public.

1. North Korea
As a Jew, I can't get a visa to "visit" Saudi Arabia...not that I'd ever have any desire to do so. There's plenty to condemn about that country and its 6th century society. But that doen't hold a candle to the repression that is ongoing in North Korea. This country doesn't discriminate...men and women are executed and their lives fully controlled by a "government" based on corruption and repression against even a sigh of dissent.

On edit: At least in Saudi Arabia if you follow the rules you can have a reasonably comfortable life.

North Korea is so shitty that people risk their lives and the lives of their families to escape into rural China, which is a paradise of wealth and freedom by comparison.

10. well - there are some decent places in Africa
I lived in Ethiopia for 2 years. Beautiful weather - Addis being at 9,000 feet. Lots to do. Cairo is facinating. Have traveled there many times and was never bored.

Also lived 4 years in Saudi. It can be a hard place to live - but you must follow and accept the rules - like no women driving. But it has some advantages. For one - the Saudis like Americans many having been educated here.

8. Mexico, hands-down.
The gangs have taken over. They are kidnapping people at random and beheading them.
