Spinning a Snopes article against Al Gore.

This showed up in my email today from a fundie aquaintance. Here's the link to Snopes.

Here's the summary of the story by the freeper of the day.


There recently was the death of a 98-year-old lady named Irena Sendler.

During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist.

She had an ulterior motive...

She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews, (being German).

Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of her tool box she carried, and she also carried in the back of
her truck a Burlap sack, (for larger kids).

She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto.

The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.

During her time and course of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants.

She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs and arms and beat her severely.

Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried
under a tree in her back yard.

After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it, and reunited the families.

Most, of course, had been gassed. Those kids she helped were placed into foster family homes or adopted.

Last year Irena was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.....

She LOST.

Al Gore won for doing a slide show on Global Warming.

She may have been nominated, but there's no way to know. That information is kept secret.

3. In my reply to the sender, I pointed that out.

This one is unusual in that there is an actual grain of truth to it. Even though the freeper conclusion is that Al Gore is evil because he got a Nobel Prize.

The impression they seem to want to leave is that Gore wrestled the Nobel prize out of the poor, deserving woman's hands. So silly.

5. Your freeper friend has to dig real deep.

There's no way of knowing if Sendler was nominated. She could have been on the list when Kissinger won it. It's been a lot of years since WWII.

This is also like the affirmative action crybabies. Thousand of people think they were blocked out of a handful of appointments because of affirmative action.

Finally, there is no doubt that Gore deserved this recognition.

is basically a liberal front organization. Everything is slanted to favor the liberals. I guess whoever posted this at Snopes is only pretending to be a right-wing asshat.

10. You don't win the Nobel peace price for things you did 70 years ago

You win for helping create peace TODAY.

She has a great story, but Schindler didn't win a peace prize either, and he saved more people.
