Souter on History, Civics and Judicial Decision Making
A very thoughtful Supreme Court Justice Souter appeared on a panel centering upon the general subject of the importance of a broad academic background -- including history and a knowledge of civics.

Here is an article about his remarks: http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1202428952224

Here is a link to the video: http://www.c-span.org/Watch/watch.aspx?MediaId=HP-A-16159
Souter starts at around minute 20
Some thoughtful remarks are at minute 30

Viewing is highly recommended.

One thought that emerged from my own perspective after seeing his comments on the importance of knowing civics, a subject now largely untaught, is: How could a home schooled student learn enough about how government works and how government functioning can be impacted by positive action?

Lots of food for thought here ...
