when do the Gonzales appointed DAs get booted or voted on |
|
Now that legislation is passed that repeals the clause that was thrown in at the last minute to allow the appointment of DAs without Senate approval, does it apply retroactive or is someone asking when the vote on those who are in now happens? Or do we wait to see if the ones who were fired get reinstated or what? Seems whatever the political reasons were for getting them in there, getting them out or putting the old ones back in would be a good idea for the Democrats to keep in mind. No?

The Constitution makes post facto laws inapplicable in this case, sorry. But, constant Congressional investigation should make most of the eight step down, since they can be made to spend at least half their time in front of the Judiciary committees detailing what they are doing and who they are doing it to. Bluntly, it's way past time for the tit4tat harassment of ReTHUGlic functionaries.
Heard a rumor that Monica Goodling has departed for Israel. . . . wonder what AIPAC would say to that?

One of the Atrios threads, I believe - I'm on vac this week, it's raining, so I'm cooped up with the PC and dial-up - trying to read 40 sites at once <grin>. I'm doing a Dave Barry, but instead of TV channels it's blogs.

2. the law limits the term of the interim appointees to 120 days |
|
unless they are confirmed by the Senate. If they are not confirmed by the Senate, then the federal district court where they serve can name an interim US Atty who can serve indefinitely. There is an unresolved issue as to whether the AG could make a second 120 day appointment, either for a new interim appointee or for the same appointee who got the original appointment.
Under the circumstances, one would expect a rational administration to either reappoint the dismissed US Attys or at very least seek confirmation of the replacements (Griffin, the Rove crony who got one of the spots already has said he won't seek permanent appointment). But using rational and this administration in the same sentence is like playing with dynamite -- really stupid.
