Roche to take over Genentech for $47 billion
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29650518/?ocid=MSNToolbar130

Swiss pharmaceutical giant Roche agreed to pay $46.8 billion to buy the 44 percent of biotech pioneer Genentech that it doesn’t already own, ending a long corporate struggle with its U.S.-based cancer drug partner.

It is the latest in a burst of megadeals among drugmakers, following Merck & Co. Inc.’s announcement Monday that it would acquire Schering-Plough Corp. and Pfizer Inc.’s pending acquisition of Wyeth. A dearth of new products and push for cost savings are driving the rush to combine.

Sooo, we're letting several other companies become "too big to fail"! Isn't that just special!!!!!

1. Too big to fail and to big too big to compete
Pretty soon it will all be Pfizer, and the great and glorious Pfizer will decide which conditions require research and development based on profit and key demographics.

Soon there will be 45 different kinds of designer hard-on medications and thousands more me-too injections just to avoid generic competiton, and still nothing effective for Parkinsons disease, Muscular Dystrophy or anything else decided by the great and benevolent Pfizer board to be too difficult and expensive to work on.

I don't know when but sometime I think there has to be some anti-trust action going on.
