In Los Angeles this week, we have with us dozens of activists attending the "Global Arc of Justice: LGBT Rights Law Around the World Conference," organized by the Williams Institute at UCLA and the International Lesbian and Gay Law Association.
Among the activists are many from Mexico and Latin America. Peruvian activists called our attention to a shocking case that took place in Tarapot, in the North, where a "junta vecinal" or neighborhood watch vigilante type of group took it upon themselves to find and punish Techi, a transgender woman and alleged prostitute. They took off her clothes, cut her hair, beat and threatened her. And all of this in front of a news crew they'd invited to chronicle the attack.

Amnesty International issued an urgent action after activists called attention to the case. Please take a moment to watch the video. We salute our brave friends in Peru and the rest of Latin America and the world as they fight for equal rights.

And bullies who think beating and humiliating a trans-woman is "justice" or ok deserve to get what they dish out times 1,000.

What is it with these kinds of assholes? They go around to find innocent people to beat, humiliate or abuse? These shits hunt for targets.Looking to find who is weaker,looks different, is different or cannot fight back.Like a mindless vicious herd they attack anything they fear or are taught to hate.

I for one am pissed off at this hatred some idiots out there have for trans-people.

If I was there, I would have to defend her, my conscious would give me no rest if I chose to be bystander to such a CRIME. If more decent people chose to stand up and defend those innocents targeted by these kinds of wastes of skin maybe those assholes beating this trans- woman would be dead,as they should have been long ago.

I think more decent people need to decide ahead they are willing to take the risk to stop by-standing and decide before any violence happens,to step up on principle and defend the people these sorts of thugs seek out and attack.

Regardless of if the attacks are aimed at trans-genders,homeless,women,children,gays ,anyone out there who is made into a target of abuse and attacked needs help from anyone else who can intervene.SO HELP.

The people with a clear sense of courage and compassion who have a sense of right and wrong ways to treat human beings are needed to defend victims and targets to stop incidents like these.

All of us will have to eventually decide to stand up together against the most ruthless and vicious of assholes among us and beat them down. Beat them back for beating up innocents until they know they can no longer get away with attacking people as targets to be abused or shamed anymore.
this will make attacking a trans-woman, or any other innocent on the street too costly for the perpetrators,themselves, personally.

These assholes need to know they will be hurt back badly if they DARE to hurt others who are not hurting anyone.

All perpetrators that do this kind of attack against others seek social sanction for what they do. The truth is, witness by-standing is to the mind of these worthless thugs, the social sanction they are seeking,'permission' by omission to defend a victim.No one standing up is to the thugs mind permission to go around and abuse people. We need to take that illusion of social sanction away from bullies and abusers and say it in the kind of language these monsters understand,like a boot to the head.
