scary stuff: 10 kids at daycare drank washer fluid mistaken as koolaid |
|
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29675664/I'm glad my kids are well past the daycare stage, fears like this were plaguing my mind at work constantly when my kids were in daycare.

1. A couple years ago in NYC a similar thing was happening with |
|
floor cleaner. I don't remember the brand name, but it was brightly colored and resembled Gatorade. After that story broke it was yanked off the shelf at the local bodega overnight.

2. windshield fluid is in a gallon jug, I guess it could be easily mistaken for blue kooaid |
|
or pink koolaid. I had a habit of always smelling containers of food/drink after I opened it, so I would have known right away, but being in a daycare situation with a bunch of thirsty or hungry kids is a whole other situation though.

WASHER FLUID not even the label could be mistaken, have you looked at juice labels and windshield washer labels.
sorry for the kids, glad she turned in her permit, right thing to do.

4. At least it doesn't look like the kids were seriously harmed. |

One went to the hospital with some methanol in his system, but should recover fully.
You'd think that even though the blue liquid looks like kool-aid, it'd taste so nasty that everyone would spit it out.
IIRC, some antifreeze manufacturers put an additive into their products to make them taste very bitter, so anyone ingesting it would spit it out - antifreeze is particularly nasty because it tastes sweet without that additive, and animals in particular will lick it up.
