Arianna is spot on with her description of "toxic thinking"....(watch part 1)

Obama Adm. better get its act together and start acting more like FDR instead of acting like Bush lite when it comes to Wall Street...

2. two Wall Street lackeys who should have never been in charge.
unfortunately the Wall Street DLC'ers would probably force Obama to pick another Wall Street insider as treasury. Wouldn't want to change the system now would we?

6. I don't think the AIG mess is part of the plan.
If Obama wants to tell us he can walk and chew gum at the same time, he can't let stuff like this happen.

He needs to prove the Republicans wrong by running a tight ship at Treasury.

7. My brother has been telling me this has been coming for at least a year now..
He's just another lower middle class guy with in internet connection and a burning desire to know what's going on in the world, not a well connected, world class politician.

Myself, I don't find finance interesting at all so I don't pay any real attention to this stuff but the indicators have been out there for a long time.

8. There's No Reasoning With The Greedy
These people aren't just tone deaf, they feel entitled. They've had the rule of the roost for a long time...and those rules were to make the most money as you can. They are oblivious to the rest of us cause they still can make the money and that's all that matters. They're not gonna "help" President Obama unless there's something in it for them. Patriotism? We've gotten a real good lesson of what matter most on Wall Street, and it's not taking care of the financial welfare of this nation...only their own.

Summers and Geitner are products of this world and think they can tame it by being "reasonable"...a fatal flaw. Bottom line...if a company is too big to fail, it's too big to exist. There's a battle going on over who really controls the economy and Wall Street is winning. For the overall health of this country, insolvent banks need to be nationalized and now!

After all ..each and every person in the government is my employee!

I pay their salaries.

My husband wore the uniform of this country to Defend and Protect the Constitution..many before me and during my lifetime laid down their lives for the constitution and gave up limbs for that constitution..every man in my family fought to defend this country..so please spare me your opinions of me..

I have every right to say what i think..at least for the time being..I pay a damn lot of taxes for that right..

Larry Summers and California Energy "crisis" / Enron

During the California energy crisis of 2000, then-Treasury Secretary Larry Summers teamed with Alan Greenspan and Enron executive Kenneth Lay to lecture California Governor Gray Davis on the causes of the crisis, explaining that the problem was excessive government regulation.<8> Under the advice of Kenneth Lay, Summers urged Davis to relax California's environmental standards in order to reassure the markets.

23. Don't play the patriotism angle.
That's the last refuge in the scandal.

There's nothing in the Constitution that says you're supposed to come up with really dumb, insipid complaints and call it patriotism.

10. Are you sure the replacements would be any better?
Obama is progressive on a lot of issues, but on economic/financial matters, he leans free-market neoliberal. That's who his whole economic team is & probably anyone he'd appoint would reflect that economic philosophy.

WSJ: Citi's Chief Economist Leaves for Treasury Post

Source: The Wall Street Journal

Citigroup Inc.'s chief economist is leaving the New York company for a job at the U.S. Treasury Department, according to an internal Citigroup memo.

Lewis Alexander, who has been at Citigroup since 1999 and before that worked at the Federal Reserve, will head to Treasury "to work on domestic financial issues," said the Citigroup memo, which was sent Tuesday.

According to a government official, Mr. Alexander will be a counselor to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Mr. Alexander and a Treasury spokesman weren't immediately available to comment Tuesday. A Citigroup spokesman declined to elaborate on the company's memo.
(...)
Mr. Alexander's role as Citigroup's chief economist didn't entail significant management responsibilities. But his optimistic economic forecasts colored executives' views that the U.S. was unlikely to face a prolonged slump.
