#1 Reason the Bailout Crimes Will Not Be Prosecuted |
|
Economic issues are too complicated for Joe Six Pack to wrap his brain around.
It's much easier to express outrage at exorbitant bonuses paid during an economic crisis than it is to understand the legal underpinnings of the crimes that have been perpetrated.
Now is the time for the media to assume its function as an educator and illuminators of the truth.
Unfortunately, that possibility is nil when the mega-corporations own and run the media outlets.

and say that these crimes will in fact be prosecuted.
The question is whether they will wait for truly severe events of immediate and unignorable consequences (e.g. crashing the bond market) before being serious about it.

Fraud is fraud...and some of those who were victims are some of the more powerful and connected people (or they were). We're still too far into the woods of this mess to see things clearly, but a things are a lot clearer now than they were 6 months or a year ago.
As well soon see with Madoff, the real investigation is just beginning...and most of it will be by those he screwed over...class action civil suit. I don't think a Steven Spielberg or others who saw millions vanish are gonna be content on Bernie's quick plea...there are others involved and the race is on now to trace the money.
Also, we will see some intrepid (and politically ambitious) DAs and prosecutors out there who see going after a big fish on Wall Street as a ticket to lots of publicity. One in specific is Andrew Cuomo.
Will all those who perpetrated this scam be brought to justice? I doubt it...the corruption was too far and wide, but don't underestimate the anger of those who paid for these follies with their life savings.
