Strange but wonderful day
When pulling into the parking lot at work, right in front of me stood a coyote.

Yes, a coyote. In Atlanta, nonetheless.

It was pretty cute -- I thought it was a weird looking dog, but on closer inspection, I could tell by the weird eyes, its color and tail that it was a coyote.

How cool is that?

Something even cooler happened when I stopped to get gas on the way home.

I saw this woman I knew that I knew from somewhere, but her hair was different and she had put on a little weight.

I kept staring at her, and went to her and pardoned myself for staring so much, and asked, "aren't you Cynthia?"

It was Cynthia McKinney in a pink jogging suit.

I introduced myself and gave her a big hug which she returned along with that famous smile.

Oh, one more thing -- $20 still fills my gas tank.

Pretty good for Hump Day, huh? :)

1. Holy cow.
You should have gotten McKinney's autograph...naw..that would have probably sounded stupid to her. Good day for you, though!

3. Indeed a weird day...There's got to be a "sign" in there somewhere
A leprechaun visited me on Tuesday..

I was asleep on the couch, and awoke with a start when the metal security door shut.. I was alone, and usually do not lock my door..(I know I know)..anyway, I glanced into the living room, and saw that the TV was ON..

I thought that my husband might have come home early (it was 11:30 AM)..but no briefcase.,no husband, .. I went outside and saw that his car was not there either..

It was just me and the kitties...and the TV in the living room ON...

I can only assume that a leprechaun showed up to see what was on C-Span, and them got disgusted and left....quietly :)

they are not one of my most favorite animals. In the middle of Orlando to boot. Never would I have imagined we had them here.

10. Pretty good day.
One advantage of living out in the sticks is that I see coyotes and fox all the time. But Not Cynthis McKinney.

14. Hello.
Never approach a coyote. Of course, it would probably run away where you live. Around here, I tell my kids to avoid them.

Lost a lot of birds to them, and a few cats. A pack of them killed one of our dogs, too. Then I got a big German Shepherd, and they keep away from my property. Cool animals, but not particularly nice.

15. a coyote shouldn't be in a city. I am glad you had a good day but there is something wrong there.
either the animal is desperate for food or ill or some other having some other problem.

I used to live in the Colorado mountains and almost never saw a coyote and when I did they avoided me like the plague. One being in a city is very strange to me.

16. I remember in the
mid-1980s, when one got hit on I-81 in downtown Syracuse, NY. It surprised some people. But coyotes adopt to their surroundings, much like bears that "hunt" for food at garbage dumps and camp grounds. They are probably found in far more urban areas than people realize, because they move in the dark, and are good at not being seen. Although I like seeing them (I live in a rural area), they aren't a good mix with populated areas.

20. They are in cities now
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 12:17 AM by Mojorabbit
Wildlife rehabber friends tell me they are getting calls now when people find orphaned pups here in central Florida.
Here is film of the coyote at a small executive airport around the lake from me.
http://www.wftv.com/news/16699021/detail.html
They finally trapped one of them.
I did some googling when my cats went missing and found that they are moving into cities in several states. Loss of habitat? Easy meals of pets? I don't know.

17. Habitat destruction is what is running the coyotes into my area,
so when I see them hit on the side of the road, along with more deer, and even beavers I get to thank the powers that be who thought destroying one of their few remaining areas for a VW plant was a splendid idea..don't get me started on that. When I hear them howling I go looking for the cat to say the least.

Now, seeing Cynthia McKinney and hugging her is a totally uplifting story! :bounce: :hi: I'm envious.

22. If coyotes are arriving, look after your kitties.
I live in coyote country in California and my guys don't go out before sunrise and have to come in at sunset. I know. I have lost a couple to them when they decided that night time was cool for them.
