Obama Cynicists? Do you think this is possible? |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-18-09 10:15 PM by Mike 03
Do any of you think that some Dems are afraid of the idea that Obama might succeed because if he does, they will have to stop being so pessimistic, get off their asses and actually contribute to society?
I mean, if you are a professional pessimist, like I have been for the last eight years, you've grown used to doing nothing, believing in nothing, having very little hope.
The idea that we finally have an effective, heroic POTUS is threatening.
He's asking we make sacrifices.
He's asking we get off of our asses and help him.
It's so much easier to just attack him than to join him in his efforts.
It's such a risk to believe again and to actually do something to try to make things better.
It's so easy to just lapse back into cynical skepticism and write President Obama off as a failure before he can even get out of the starting gate.
How about we give him a fucking chance?
Or am I way off base?

2. No, they're being paid off by lobbyists. Or they're being threatened. |

We have grown so used to Bush and our hopes that someone/something would bring him down that we have just given up. It really is going to take some time to adjust to the fact that the POTUS does really care about what we the people think! I, like most of my American brothers/sisters am feeling an effect by what the Bush Administration left behind, but I will get over it and I hope others do as well. We really need to have hope, and work together to get our country back.
If Tim Geithner is the wrong person to be doing the job he is in, then I will leave it up to President Obama to do the right thing.

4. Probably true for many. For others, there is just the fear of hoping |

and the risk of hopes dashed on the rocks.

5. I don't know about you.. |

But I've *been* trying to make things better, trying hard enough where it has harmed my relationship with my family because they are basically apolitical and think I've gone off the deep end without a life preserver.
And frankly I'm tired, tired of politicians and the games they play. I've gotten to the point where I would feel right at home in Missouri, don't tell me, show me.

but I don't trust Geithner or Summers. Or Gates, for that matter. I think they're much too entrenched in corporate culture and tend to see things in those terms. And there's the thing about AIG and why the Fed did not tell our President about the bonuses until the day before they were to be dispersed. I mean, Jesus, that was stupid.
That being said, I have very few, if any criticisms of President Obama. I'm thrilled to death with him. I don't trust the leftovers from the Bush administration still operating within the government and hope they are purged soon. I feel they are trying to undermine our President, and he's getting enough crap from the 'pubs in Congress, never mind the MSM. I don't know how he does it, but he's doing a great job in spite of all the shit being thrown at him.

9. The question is this applies to you? If it does, it is a personal decision |
|
me... I am aware that everybody has an agenda, and some of our very conservative Dems have an agenda that makes me wonder... what the fuck are you guys doing in the Democratic Party? Oh yeah, I know, Them republicans are far more radical than even you feel comfortable with
As to me, I understand what they are doing, including appointments to the cabinet, and realize some folks will try to stop this agenda (which is not as progressive as I wish it was, at least for the moment) regardless of letter behind their name (Yes senator Bayh, here looking at you), and the same goes for many well committed DLCers here.
Now if you have no hope taht things will change, I'll share this with you... and I'm a professional cynic...
All systems have a point where they break, a tipping point. When that tipping point is crossed, change usually comes fast, and furious.
I think we are probably getting close to that tipping point
I US history whenever we cross them... it does not matter who's in the WH... they just get behind the parade...
The other choice is a violent reaction to those tipping points... and we have had them as well... here's hoping the changes that will come do such peacefully
