HUNTINGTON — Fire marshals believe a woman knocked over a camping lantern, which ignited a fire inside a tool shed Tuesday afternoon.

The fire gutted the tool shed and caused four small propane tanks to explode, said Assistant State Fire Marshal Reed Cook. A woman, who was living inside of the tool shed with her husband, received burns. Investigators identified the woman as Marsha Day. She was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Neighbors said the couple had lived in the tool shed for a period of months. Their high-school age daughter also lived there from time to time.

Cook said the family indicates the tool shed was a temporary residence, while water and electricity were connected to a nearby mobile home. Cook was unsure of the exact timeline. He said the shed also lacked those utilities. Cook and sheriff’s deputies said it appears that an electrical cord extended from a vehicle’s battery to provide limited power to the shed. The remnants of a mattress' box spring were found inside the shed.
