Father, mystic held for allegedly raping daughters

MUMBAI, India (AP) — An Indian businessman has been arrested for allegedly raping his daughter for more than eight years, apparently on the advice of a Hindu mystic who said it would make him wealthy, police said Thursday.

Police also arrested the man's wife, suspected of being an accomplice, and the mystic — a tantrik, or practitioner of the ancient Indian art of the occult — for allegedly raping the man's other minor daughter.

Police said the father, a 49-year-old car parts salesman from Mumbai's outskirts, began raping his oldest daughter in 2000, when she was 14, after he ran into financial troubles.

"The businessman approached a friend who claimed to possess tantrik powers, and the latter advised him to have sex with his daughter to prosper in life," police officer Mukund Mahajan told the CNN-IBN news channel.

i am amazed that we still have these perverts in the 21st century. I hope he gets the same treatment that was given by the Andhra Police recently to acid-attack-hooligans.

If you didn't known the Andhra incident: 3 Guys planned and attacked 2 girls by throwing acid. The reason is supposed to be rejection of love proposal. One of the girls died a few months after the attack. The police quickly traced & arrested these guys & paraded them in front of the public. In a "bizzare incident", the guys when taken to the spot of incident, "tried to escape" & hurt the police and were gunned down in the "police encounter". While there were some sporadic protests, most people in the state congratulated the police for the action. It is said that molestation incidents have gone down dramatically in the state.
