Suppose it came to light that Bush had authorized a special team of burglars to |
|
break into the headquarters of the DNC, and they got caught. And suppose John Yoo wrote memos providing a legal rationale for the breakin. The rationale consists merely of the assertion that if the President authorizes it, then it's legal.
What do you think would have happened?
My bet is...Nothing would have happened. The press would have ignored the story, or cast it as a heroic part of the War on Terror. I mean, Hell, we broke into an entire country, and they didn't mind that. We systematically tortured people and they didn't mind that. We wiretapped our own citizens and the press didn't mind that. Why should a third-rate burglary bother them?
Ya know what I'm sayin' here?

1. Press? Hell. Congress wouldn't do a damn thing. |
|
They have fucking torture memos in their hands and the STILL aren't investigating or prosecuting. They act like it's no big deal.

2. Nothing would have been done. The Bush False Reality Generator and Lie Laundry, aided by the GOPM$M |
|
would swing into action.
In 24 hours the Democrats would signal their desire not to focus on the past but move forward.
In 48 hours, in the mind of the American Subject Populace, it would be the whistleblowers who were guilty of exposing this necessary operation against terrorists for Fatherland Security.
End of story.

3. The chimp's and the dick's nefarious deeds were so much worse than Watergate |
|
Indeed, it would have been ignored like all the rest of their crimes. :banghead:

4. It would never have been reported |
|
The media would have buried anything related to a break-in because that would have been the orders.

5. 9/11 changed everything. |
|
It wouldn't stay in the news cycle for 24 hours.

7. Even that wouldn't have done it, because it would simply not have been reported. |
|
I mean, wouldn't the Gannon/Guckert overnights-in-the-Whitehouse/disappearing logs story have been an even bigger deal, if the press had wanted to make it into one?
No way the press was gonna touch the bushies, dead interns, dead babies or no.

8. i just find it amusing. clinton was impeached because he had sex with an intern |
|
and lied about it. which, lying is bad, sure. screwing around on one's wife is between the person and their spouse. but to impeach based on that.... but torture, lying to congress, illegal wiretapping, lying to get us into war, and the list goes on... not enough for impeachment. wtf is wrong with this country!!
