My bet is...Nothing would have happened. The press would have ignored the story, or cast it as a heroic part of the War on Terror. I mean, Hell, we broke into an entire country, and they didn't mind that. We systematically tortured people and they didn't mind that. We wiretapped our own citizens and the press didn't mind that.
