Nightline doing a story tonight on Amish Puppy Mills |
|
For those of you who wondered why the Amish Puppy Mills are so bad, this story could answer your questions. Got this info from my rescue:
Well friends, once again, the cat is out of the bag - or should we say the dog out of the hutch! This Friday night, March 27, ABC's Nightline will be investigating puppy mills!
ABC Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi and investigators from Nightline travel the byways and back roads of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - visiting numerous puppy mills and filming Main Line Animal Rescue's volunteers as they rescue breeding dogs and puppies from Lancaster County's notorious Amish commercial breeding facilities.
This promises to be a very special program. If you are involved in rescue, advocate on behalf of the millions of puppy mill dogs interned in our nation's commercial dog breeding facilities, or if you just simply love animals, you will not want to miss this.
Sharyn Alfonsi interviewed, on camera, an Amish breeder while touring his facility - a first for network television. With approximately 500 dogs housed on his property, this commercial breeder speaks openly about an industry cloaked in secrecy and suspicion - the cruel factory farming of man's best friend.
PLEASE tell your friends, your family, your coworkers - ABC Nightline investigates puppy mills - this Friday at 11:35 pm (Eastern Standard Time). Please take the time to forward this to all the rescues, shelters, and legislators in your area.

1. Thanks! Good to hear this is being broadcast. |
|
I hope it's not overly sympathetic, though. I wonder why a breeder would allow an interview and tour.

2. Pennsylvania is Puppy Mill Central. |
|
The Amish have been involved in this for ages. They view their dog breed stock as livestock, and treat them that way. The animals are warehoused, with their only purpose being to reproduce. It's hard for real pet lovers to see dogs treated this way.

3. Yes, I don't know if I can watch it or not |
|
My 2 year old is an Amish Puppy Mill dog. He was there until he was 6 months old. He still has some issues from the experience.

5. I learned about the Amish puppy mills |
|
when I was searching for a Boston Terrier about 6 years ago. It was so horrifying to learn about what is going on in Lancaster County. The conditions that these poor puppies are breed under and live in is just sickening. From the research I did at the time, I learned that the Amish do not have the kind of attitude towards animals that many other Americans have, their relationship with animals is very different. They view animals as being there to serve them.

This dirty practice needs to not only be exposed but stopped.

8. I hope a lot of people saw this |
|
nothing sadder nor worse than a puppy/dog that is from one of these sicko places. The people doing this (and it is not only the Amish doing it) are guilty of animal torture and cruelty and they belong in jail locked up and kept away from all that is alive!

it is much worse than what was shown. However, they did mention the debarking thing.
This is an awful thing to do to a dog.
I had a dog 3 years ago that I was "rescuing". It turned out she was from such an environment. It was so f'ng sad!
I had to have said dog put down as she was very sick and in a lot of pain and nothing could be done for her.
To this day, I hope to see that these people/places doing this are put down for good.
The Amish also run dog auctions. They did not mention this. The auctions are where it all takes root and spreads. The AKC is at these dog/puppy auctions and they do the registering of the sold dogs/puppies right there on site.
Too bad they did not mention how corrupt the AKC is and what a dirty role they have in this whole thing.
