Well, I know how to change the power structure in this country and put the |
|
power mongers in their place.
Stop using credit.
Get rid of your credit cards, pay off everything you can.
opt out of thier power structure and they are powerless over you.
We could go on a general strike then, and not lose everything we "own"....
Meaning our credit rating.

1. Also, start buying locally. Squeeze them out. |
|
I just changed my bank to a local credit union. I'm going to start growing some of my food. I'm also going to try to make some of my clothes like I used to when I was in college.

We haven't had credit cards (or credit of any kind) since 2001.. On occasion the woman who roasts coffee locally loans me a pound.....she sells fair trade only...
The goodwill is running out of good wool sweaters with the economy in the shitter....

3. That's what I did after Bush got "elected" in 2000 |
|
I got rid of my credit card and paid off all my debts.
I couldn't trace the reason why so well, but I had the feeling that it was a form of real subversion.

Opt out of the credit-based trinket and toy culture, you start to end the hipnosis.....
IMHO, that's when you can begin to understand the fact that we are not citizens so much as consumers, and there is no sin or crime out of bounds (as witnessed by the lack of interest in hanging Cheney among the general population) as long as the ipods on credit flow.

7. I wish you luck. I can't remember how many times I've exhorted people to do this over the 8 years |
|
I've been on DU, and gotten almost nothing back but excuses from people intent on keeping their credit cards.
"But, I NEEEED them!"
"But, I get MILES!"
"But, I pay the balance off every month!"
Credit cards are the links people forge for themselves to keep themselves chained to the System. It's amazing how many people can't bear to part with their shackles.

for changing the economic system. If not the most effective.
Thanks for raising this flag. It's not a popular, as you can tell.
It requires too much of a lifestyle change for some.
I stopped using other people's money (AKA credit), for my goods and services, some years ago.
And while some may think that it comes with some hardships, I can assure you that it is psychologically liberating.
Thanks again.

I can't express with words how much I hate these goddamn companies.
Instead of real wage increases we have been extended credit at usurious terms. What a scam.

I also don't buy anything I can't pay cash for. I don't own a house and any cars I have bought have all been used. People look at me like I am nuts. Or at least they used too till the economy went all to hell and it didn't affect me one iota.
