What would be the best way to recognize Cesar Chavez Day?
Some background:
Here is the Wikip*dia page for Chavez: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cesar_Chavez">Cesar Chavez

Here is the official tube for the United Farm Workers: UFW

And here is an article from the LA Times saying that LA's school district will be celebrating Cesar Chavez Day (LA Times)

But, what ideas are out there for remembering this man and his legacy?

Anyone have any ideas?

1. Make sure it includes something about grapes.
Students could have grapes for their school snack, and the teacher could tell them why they are having grapes for their snack. It would be simple enough to introduce that part of his life, and then give a brief lesson about the rest of his biography.

Adults could have lapel pins that represent bunches of grapes.

Do something simple like that to make people remember him. I suggest this because I think most people remember the grape strike best.

This needs to be thought out better. But it is nearly four in the a.m. here, and I am tired.

2. "This needs to be thought out better." LOL! I agree.
I'm hoping later people will post their ideas, and not just for students.

But, for everyone who depends on farm workers to eat.

6. POVERTY. The man was all about POVERTY.
He did a lot more than GRAPES!

He spoke for those of us who are shunted aside.

He also advocated for HOUSING.

You might think about starting there. Those of us without a place to live would be most appreciative.

8. This is a brainstorming thread.
I like your input, we need to concentrate on poverty and housing.

But symbolically we can use grapes to say that.

9. Quite right.
I'm very certain the average person will equate grapes with low-income housing.

10. We can link the two.

Come on.

Chavez was known for the grape strike as well as his work to increase awareness about affordable housing and poverty.

And since this is a thread to brainstorm ideas, the first thing we'll do is come up with all the ideas we can before seeing how we can make them work.
