Imagine our current healthcare system as a dilapidated, termite infested house |

Edited on Sun Mar-29-09 11:15 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
that all Americans live in. It has big gaps in the roof although some portions are fine. The Americans living in the dry rooms don't understand why the others are always complaining about being wet. They're fine. Yet, every year, more holes appear and more Americans get rained on. The foundation and support beams are so eroded with termites eating it away that the entire house will soon collapse.
The government acknowledges that it has a responsibility to make repairs to the house.
Is it more fiscally responsible to "build onto and renovate" the house that we already live in, because, heck, we're all used to the dilapidation and it's what we're familiar with
or:
would it be better to tear down the house and start over?
If this were a real house, ask any contractor what the better, more effective and more long term answer would be. Also ask them if they're concerned about the welfare of the termites.

1. If profits for big farma weren't the be all and end all for the industry |
|
we would tend to use things that already work and work well.... as opposed to always having to feed off the money generated by the next big blockbuster DRUG.
www.Bastyr.edu <---- More students being turned out of here would put a dent in it.

3. They're Just Bringing In Orkin - But Orkin Is Really The Bugs Dressed To Look Like...... |

the solution to the termite problem. Instead the 'termite killer' they are using is really 'water' so the termites can live on and slowly continue to weaken the house - that will continually be re-built to keep the termites sated. Note that the termites are benefiting on both ends. They continue to live on fat and happy at the same time they are being paid as Orkin to take care of the problem.
Now there's an analogy for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4. I like you analogy of the safe ones not thinking about the ones out in |
|
the rain. Most of my family is covered under the Indian Health Care system. Safe. Or are they? When the government talks about one comprehensive health care program doesn't that mean eliminating the above program also and everyone in some insurance pot? What about the Veterans Administration? Safe?
There are a lot of people setting back refusing to take part in this fight for a single payer plan. They do not even know they are going to be part of what comes out.
