Dozens protest Chesterfield’s decision to enforce dancing ban at two Midlothian restaurants

Nearly 50 people gathered outside Chesterfield County's administration building today to protest the county's decision to enforce a dancing ban at two popular restaurants on Hull Street Road.

The protesters, which included restaurant patrons and band members who played at both locations, believe Chesterfield is selectively enforcing a county code that prohibits dancing at businesses without a nightclub permit.

The enforcement effort has specifically affected the County Rib & Ale House and Mulligan's Sports Grille, both on Hull Street Road in the Midlothian area. Police have cited County Rib & Ale twice for dancing without a permit on Feb. 6 and Feb. 20. Mulligan's also was cited for a dancing incident in February.

"These are two venues in particular that have had live music for years, and it's never been a problem, never been an issue until now for some reason," said the event organizer Jarrod Hoover, a member of the band Culdera, who has played at both restaurants. "We're hoping to shed some light on exactly why.

6. Get the damn permit and get on with life.
Not enforcing a regulation for a period of time doesn't mean the regulation is invalid.

Here where I live they're suddenly enforcing seat-belt laws to the point where the county sheriff's deputies are making u-turns in the middle of the boulevard when they spot a seat-belt offender. It's basically a revenue thing.

Get the permit.
