Texas Sen. says Coleman has right to pursue legal fight for years
Sen. John Cornyn says Coleman deserves the chance to continue his legal battle in the federal courts, even if it takes years to resolve.

Texas Sen. John Cornyn is threatening “World War III” if Democrats try to seat Al Franken in the Senate before Norm Coleman can pursue his case through the federal courts.

Cornyn, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, acknowledges that a federal challenge to November’s elections could take “years” to resolve. But he’s adamant that Coleman deserves that chance — even if it means Minnesota is short a senator for the duration.

2. "Cornyn is threatening “World War III”"
What exactly would that entail; would it be worse than tying up the senate seat for years?

Enough of this fucking bullshit. The republicans aren't being anything but obstructionist assholes anyways. Let them do their worst. We'll have one more Senator to combat their bullshit in the meantime.

Maybe if they get fed up they should all stop paying their taxes!

15. I remember when all the legal scholars..
said the Supreme Court would never take the Bush vs. Gore case. That it was up to the States to deal with their own elections. Seems to me they make up the law as they go, so who knows?

29. For myself I am just really tired of it.
After a horrible campaign season I think a lot of Minnesotans just want it over. Franken is not universally popular, even among Dems. Coleman has flushed any future political career down the toilet because of these obstructionist shenanigans. The CityPages, our local Alt Weekly had a very even handed article that I felt summed up what I've been feeling

http://www.citypages.com/2009-01-28/news/city-pages-to-norm-coleman-kindly-step-aside/

On a more juvenile note regarding Sen Cornyn. I don't know that picking on bunch of quiet Nordic farmers who cheerfully live in what is generally considered one of the more inhospitable places in the country is really the smartest thing to do. Don't poke the polar bear.

peace

10. Shouldn't the citizens of Minnesota's voice be more important than some dork from Texas?
They wouldn't let someone from Minnesota stick their nose into Texas activities.

Why didn't they do the same when the presidential elections were hanging by a chad?

Get a life.

Give Franken the seat.

25. I wish somebody in the media,
Edited on Mon Mar-30-09 02:10 PM by MO_Dem
on camera, would ask Cornyn this question: "If the courts rule that Coleman is the winner, and if Franken appeals, then Coleman could not and should not be seated until all of Franken's appeals have been exhausted, right?"

Edited to add: I bet Cornyn would be doing some serious flip-flopping if he was asked that question.

27. Do Democrats know how to call a bluff?
Let's see what happens if the Repubs want to start "WWIII" over this.

Weren't we always afraid of how we'd look to people if we supported our causes too fervently?

31. Isn't the way to call his bluf to do this.
The first things Dems should do is have the Dem loser to Cornyn file a lawsuit in Texas claiming they really won. Then say well normally we wouldn't do anything about such a silly case but Cornyn's been really outspoken about this stuff so we're going to have to look at if we can allow him to keep his seat while this on going lawsuit and appeals is being pursued.

28. Blame should also be placed @ the DSCC's feet
We had a excellent candidate Rick Noriega an active duty service member running against the Cornyn Big Machine who was well financed. Cornyn ran TV ads almost non-stop.

Bill and Hillary campaigned for Rick, tried to get the DSCC to help fund him, but the DSCC couldn't be bothered with getting another Democrat elected. Instead the DSCC spent most of their resources on incumbent members, huge amounts of money.

So, anytime I hear about Cornyn doing some dumbass stunts I will remind everyone here about Rick Noriega and the neglect he received from the Democratic Party.

BTW: I'm a Texan and I tried my best to help get Rick elected. Now I'm stuck with Cornyn for another 6 Long YEARS :puke:

Do you suppose we can convince him to old his breath for a really - really long time if Franken is seated?
