How do I stop my brother from watching Lou Dobbs?.......
My brother gets home from work at around 5, which is about the time Lou Dobbs is on here. He wants to see whats the news of the day so he turns on CNN and there is Lou Dobbs spewing his vile right wing nonsense. I've told him over and over to not watch that stupid show because all Lou talks about is illegal immigration and just nit picks at Obama for an hour. But he watches it anyway, it's not enough to get him to stop watching it.

He did vote for Obama (his first vote ever) but doesn't really care about politics. I wouldn't mind if he watched it but we share a room and I have to sit here and listen to Dobbs in the background. I would go to another room but my computer is in this room, so how do I convince him to stop watching that stupid show?

2. Throw the tv out of the window?
Ok... probably not the best solution.

Can you eliminate that channel? With our cable, you can make some channels require a password to see and others can be made to disappear completely.

We made Faux Noise disappear completely. It was the best thing ever for our blood pressure.

6. I think I can but.........
My brother likes to watch CNN and he wouldn't go for it, plus he pays the cable bill so who am I to say what channels he can and can't watch on the cable he pays for? plus he's older than me lol.

3. Don't you have regional cable news where you live?
Or CNN's HEADLINE News? He'd be better off getting a half hour of cable news, and a half hour of local news, to get his fix. Lou isn't "news"--he's an opinion show on a small subset of topics.

Put on HEADLINE News before he gets home. Maybe he'll just sit his ass down and watch.

11. I'll try that but I don't think it will work.......
odds are he will probably just pick up the remote and change it to Lou Dobbs, but I'll give that a shot, thanks.

5. Laugh. Don't take luu slopps serious. Act amused that your brother does.

Have the TV turned on to something else when he comes home, something that might be an interesting substitution.

Oh, and good luck. Those blowhards are very addictive to certain people. Sometimes there isn't much you can do.

8. You shouldn't ...
... progressives like to argue, not censor.

Maybe it will do you good to hear the 'other side'.

Besides, even Lou Dobbs has the substance right on the illegal immigrants issue.

Hey, mostly I listen/watch Ed Schultz, Thom Hartman, Keith Olberman, Rachel Maddow. But sometimes I even watch Lou Dobbs ... it hasn't turned me into a conservative by any stretch.

So argue with your brother, but trying to completely cut-off different viewpoints is ... well ... undemocratic.

13. I've tried that..........
He really doesn't care about ideology, I've told him all the reasons why he shouldn't watch it but it just goes in one ear and out the other.

14. Start blaming everything on the immigrants.
For awhile it was a running joke at my house. Your coffee needs a warm up? The cat is shedding? Squirrels got into the bird feeder again? Find some tortured logic that allows you to blame it on the immigrants, no matter how far of a stretch it is ... then apologize and explain you were channeling lou.

16. When Dobbs is on
start laughing uncontrollably. Jump up and down and roll on the floor in laughter. After a while phase the laughter into sobbing. Eventually, if he loves you, he will change channels.

18. Walk in one evening when your brother is watching Lou Dobbs and
casually remark that Dobbs has been surprisingly successful for someone with an artificial penis.

Add that "People say it looks reasonably authentic, but of course it doesn't work."

If your brother persists and demands to know what happened, tell him that you really don't want to mention any specifics, only that it involved a swimming pool drain.

20. Tell him a survey came out and they said
that 93% of Lou Dobbs watchers are impotent. Tell him when they first started tracking the numbers that only 43% were and by watching LD your chances of becoming impotent increases by 50%.

I use other BS stories to keep people from shopping at walmart. I say that more kids are kidnapped from walmart then any other store in the US. Is it true? Could be. Does that person want to find out the hard way?

21. I feel for you
I don't think I could stand to listen to Dobbs for five minutes, much less the entire hour of his crap.

Do you think any of this is rubbing off on him? Have you asked him his opinion of some of the subjects Dobbs covers, such as immigration? If he begins spouting Dobbs-speak, time to switch him over to MSNBC.

Mock and make fun of Dobbs every time he's on - see him through the eyes of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert!

Every time Dobbs rants about "illegals", shout "DEY TUK UR JERBS!!!"
