Why would my repukelican senators vote against a bill to commemorate 9/11? |
|
The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act - Vote Passed (79-19, 1 Not Voting)
The Senate passed this national service bill which would increase the number of AmeriCorps volunteers from 75,000 to 250,000 and designate September 11 as a national day of service and remembrance.
Sen. Sam Brownback voted NO. Sen. Pat Roberts voted NO.

1. Because they have perfected the art of hypocrisy more than anything else. |
|
The try to claim morals but they don't have any. They try to claim patriotism, but they are only patriotic when it comes to Republican led aggression. They try to claim smaller government but double the size every time they are in power. They try to claim they don't tax and spend, but in reality, they tax the middle class to hell and back and spend whether the money is there or not. That works out to Spend and Spend.
The only thing they got left is hypocrisy, which they have perfected.

they disagreed with the meat of the bill instead of an add-on day of remembrance and service.

I don't think volunteer work should be mandatory for anyone. It's called volunteering for a reason. Forcing people to do this will only create tension between them and those they are working with and bring down the whole experience for those who want to be there and those they are helping.

forced, mandatory military service, huh? But God forbid people be dragged away from their ipods, cell phones, video games and computers to actually do some good for people and the nation.

17. Look, you do have a very valid point. |
|
I don't believe in forced service, either, whether military or community. My experience has been, though, that if you make the opportunity for all types of community service available, and the possibilities are practically endless, people will respond positively without being forced. Those who do not probably aren't the type you want working to serve others anyway. So, as long as it's not forced, there's nothing at all wrong with this bill.

14. Nice RW talking point you're spewing there! |

How exactly does increasing the funding for more AmericaCorps volunteers entail forcing people to volunteer.
It just opens up more opportunities for those who want to.
You need to get off the RW propaganda....it's clouding your ability to raionally anaylize facts.

10. Don't Pick On Their Cash Cow |

For rushpublicans, 9/11 means only one thing: Fear. It's a day not to commemorate those who died rather than to ramp up fear and hatred of all things "un-American" (as approved by Rushbo). It's a money raiser...reminding people of that awful day and how A-rabs, "libruls" and brown-skinned people are the real threat...and the image of both the crashing towers and the subsequent hole in hte ground were their memorials to their paragons of hate and discrimination.
National service? We don't need no "national service"...that's what we have contractors for. Remember, rushpublicans love to talk about serving one's country, until it's their bacon on the line.
