Does anyone here know of a left of center discussion board? |
|
I would be interested in discussing "main street" concerns with fellow liberals. I'd like to examine ways to better make the Democratic leaderhip, and the president responsive to liberal ideals , not centrist or conservative ideals.
Can anyone here steer me to such a site?
(If the site is not dependant upon ad revenues, so much the better.)

who actually defend, or try to defend, the President and the Democratic leadership. Sometimes by attacking the supposed loony left.

2. this is a left of center board, though it's inclusive of people who are farleft of center |
|
and people who are of the blue dog persuasion. If you're looking for a board that embraces far left of center only, I can pm you.

heres what I have seen in all my years. the 'right' went all the way over to neocon. so far into fascist territory. it changed the whole perspective. people who are considered far left now, used to be called centrist back in the day. my dad was a union man, who went on strike and demanded decent wages and fair pay. he was a quiet man but he fought hard against management policies and fought for unions. he would be considered too far left now. he would have been amused by that. the moderate DLC left, to me, is what used to be called conservative. hillary is a good example of that, and many of obamas advisors are also. the new meme is , dont step out of line, dont make waves, and be glad you can make 20 cents a day from our glorious corporate sponsors.

6. You're On One. If You Really Meant "Loony Irrational Zealous Left" Then There Are A Few That Come |

to mind, but I'm not allowed to post the links here.
(Doesn't matter anyway, since those boards are filled with such closed minded lunatics that you'd likely not really want to join them anyway)

9. Are "Loony, irrational and zealous" your words for "Idealistic"? |
|
If so, then I would like to know about those sites that the Loonies and the irrational zealots congregate.
Maybe its time for a "Liberal Underground"

It does have a few far-far-left-wing malcontents, though.

11. Depends on where the center is. |
|
In some universes, Free Republic is left of center.
DU is the best of the leftie boards. It's got everything from gently left to radical insane aliens-killed-JFK-to-protect-chemtrails left. You can spend all your time reading the threads that disagree radically with you, or you can skip those and find discussions suited to your taste. You'll still find more like-minded Dems to hang out with here than you will on other boards.
Mods, I expect my check in the mail. PR work isn't free.

12. One can find various leftist views here, but one gets the impression they're barely tolerated |
|
...depending upon the subject, or the social/cultural context in which the matter is presented. The best forums to find free thinkers are usually the forums not specifically wearing its ideological colors on its sleeve.
Sadly, however, rightward leaning and authoritarian views are encountered far more frequently since those views are exalted within the broader corporate/consumer culture without being sold/labeled as such for public consumption. Hence there's this huge % of people w/righty views who don't seem to grasp that the view is indeed 'rightist.'

15. Imagine how a centrist reads your post, and you've got the whole thing in a nutshell. |
|
Everyone thinks their exact, specific viewpoint is the only correct one, and there are enough POVs here that every viewpoint will be attacked. Thus, everyone feels like DU is a haven for their worst enemies, and that they are always being attacked or having to read arguments from idiots who just don't get it.
But there's still a lot of people who will agree with any point you make, and that's the point of DU. You'll find a lot of disagreement here, but you'll find more people who agree with you here than you will find anywhere else. That's all I meant.

18. Well, some seek quarrel, others solidarity. It's good to bounce one's views off others |
|
There is, however, a prominent school of thought here that reflects the prevailing ideologies of the corporate culture. Pointing that out is what often leads to groupthink/verbiage lynchings, usually with one or two crusading, blowhard 'anti-conspiracy theorists' leading the charge, with several "Me Too!" haters in tow. They're easy to ignore for the most part.

Just that there are a lot of viewpoints.
And some of us seek quarrels some days, and solidarity others, and you can find both here.

24. Unacknowledged ideological views are precisely my point as they do the most damage |
|
I would disagree though you that there's a collective here, each with a significant variance of view re major national topics.
One can easily discern how certain issues yield unquestioning obedience by a majority - to the benefit of the rulers of the country, of course. By default this often results in those who don't abide that majority being relegated to "conspiracist" status.
Either way, sometimes it's fun/interesting. Other times not so.

Start an OP asking how we can make the 'President responsive to liberal ideals.' People want to talk about those kinds of things.
