Obama supporters from primaries on DU: How are you feeling he has done so far?
Are you satisfied? or let down?

Overall, I'm satisfied. I think he is a strong leader and in the brief time he has been in office has already made a big difference:

1) Signed the Childrens Health Insurance Bill which extended health insurances to millions of children.

2) Reversed Bush on Stem-Cells research

3) Changed procedure to promote disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act

4) Reduced secrecy in presidential records

5) Issued orders closing Guantanamo Bay

6) Categorically put the U.S. against torture.

7) Signed a Stimulus Bill which provides the most money for infrastructure in history in one act.

8) Sweeping public lands reform bill which protects some two-million acres of wilderness.

9) Directed the U.S. military to deploy plans to withdraw from Iraq

I can't think of another U.S. president in recent times who has accomplished quite as much in such a short while.

Do I agree with him on everything? NO.

1) I'm not sure about his expansion of troops into Afghanistan, seven years ago it might have made sense, I'm not so sure today.

2) I would have liked to see less tax cuts in the stimulus and more $$ for infrastructure.

3) I would rather help the auto industry than some of these banks.

1. He's mostly got it right, but he has a loooong road
ahead of him. He has disappointed on occasion, and I'm sure he will disappoint on numerous occasions.

2. It has only been 2 months, so yes, if I look at what was accomplished, I am satisfied.
I do not agree with him on everything, but, he has done a lot that gives me some hope. But it needs to be continued and we have hopefully 8 years for that. First priorities: the economy, healthcare, and global warming.

3. I'm thrilled about all the moves to protect the environment and move toward green energy...
Also very happy about the President's world view and changes in foreign policy.

My verdict on the bank situation isn't in yet, but I continue to be skeptical about the financial team.

10. He has done a few good things, but I am a little let down.
I'm not a huge fan of forcing the head of a private company out of work. I wonder how long we will have to pay off all of the funds spent on the bail out. It annoys me that the DTV switch got pushed back (yeah, i know thats not all him).

I did not like some of his cabinet picks.

I do like that he reversed Bush on stem-cell research, considering that my wife does stem cell research and will be able to get govt funding after she gradates with her phd.

I do support him on Afghanistan.

And, while I think newspapers are a dying industry, I would still like to see him bail them out.

11. Very satisfied.
He could have given us the moon right off, if only he didn't have to start by digging us out of such a deep hole. Heck, he may give us the moon anyway, before this is all over.

I have never seen anyone work so hard right off the bat and get so little respect for it, from the media and so-called far left. I say so called, as I consider myself an old time liberal. I stood on the street corners in protest of the War on Iraq before it began; was a "flower child" during the VietNam era; and I campaigned for John Kennedy at the ripe old age of 15.

I LOVE OUR PRESIDENT!

It does seem the American people are taking pretty good measurement of the man, tho, and they like what they have seen, as well--despite every attempt by the media to undermine him.

Obama is going to exceed all expectations. He isn't perfect, but who is? Seems all his detractors think they are. He is looking long term and I am surprised that many otherwise intelligent left-leaners can't see down the road.

Give the man a couple of years---not a couple of months, for pity sakes.

The Bush Cabal to justice for their crimes, but other than that he is doing a good job.

I must add that given what he was left with from the previous mis-Administration he gets an A for not resigning in the first 60 days.

17. I'm unhappy that the administration is giving endless billions to financial firms, and...
Edited on Tue Mar-31-09 04:25 PM by Eric J in MN
...is trying to stop torture victims from having their day in court, and trying to stop states from regulating national banks.

Regarding
"6) Categorically put the U.S. against torture."

Bush repeatedly said that the US doesn't torture.

But both administrations don't want people who were renditioned by the CIA and tortured to be able to sue.

22. He has a lot on his plate.
I am, however, disappointed in some of his decisions regarding Afghanistan, torture, and certain aspects of his economic plan.
I plan to withhold judgment for one year an after that, I feel i will be able to make a more accurate assessment of the Obama and his policies.

24. So far, so good,
but it's early in the game. It's a mighty long trek down to the finish line as far as his agenda, so be patient and give him time to set things in order. Besides, look at the shit left behind that he's still cleaning up--8 years worth!

28. Very good considering it's only been 2 months and he was handed a shit pile by *.
He's doing triage as best he can and triage is always gonna piss people off because it sometimes it requires doing things that are not totally fair or just in the short term in order to stabilize the patient, hence all the people bitching about the bank bailout. Yes, letting the banks go to hell may be "right" and "just", but it would devastate the economy and throw us into a depression that would make the Great Depression look like a correction, the well-being of millions of people should not be scarified in order to strictly adhere to abstract principles.
