Don Siegelman will get a fair hearing |
|
The Stevens case is just the beginning. That's my firm belief. DOJ will be cleaned up and all these political hacks planted there will be purged.
Now will the DU political/legal experts tell me what Stevens did to Bush (Snr. or Jnr.), Cheney or Rove to explain why he was railroaded out of office. What really happened here?

1. Excellent point --- maybe that's part of the reason behind Holder's action |
|
He's set a precedent that he will overturn convictions if he finds evidence that prosecutions were tainted ... Hopefully they're reviewing Siegelman's case as well as Stevens'.

2. I was listening to John Dean on KO |
|
and he didn't say that, but he hinted at a clean up and swore for Holder's integrity. The clean-up has begun.

5. A judge overturned the conviction and Holder decided not to .... |
|
prosecute again. Seems like Holder must have decided that they couldn't make their case with all the evidence in the open that the governemnt had withheld in the previous trial.

3. I don't think you understand - it wasn't about a political agenda..it's about winning at all costs.. |
|
I mean we spent money investigating you so you MUST be guilty...
That's the attitude of most prosecutors these days and whether you actually are guilty or not really isn't important to them, it's about their "win" record. They assume that the safeguards in the system are already too lenient and that they are never in danger of wrongly getting a conviction on someone.
That said, Stevens looks to be pretty sleazy as far as taking the home remodeling gifts but if the gov't denied access to exculpatory evidence then I guess he ought to go free. I doubt he'll be around to run again in 6 years so being out of the Senate is probably good enough.

Seriously, this needs to be beaten into every cop and prosecutor in this country. They NEED to OBEY the damn law! If they don't, not only will bad guys still go free sometimes (it is inevitable unless you start locking people up merely for suspicion), but the system will become corrupt and rife with abuses, e.g. like what we have now in the post-bush era. No conviction is worth the corruption of the justice system.

This is BIG news people!!!!! http://www.atlargely.com/2009/04/update-judge-owen-recuses-herself-from-minor-appeal.htmlTime for a return to real justice.

14. Owen recused herself? Great! |

I'll be watching the Minor case. It seems to be crucial in unravelling the Bush-connected corruption in the Mississippi legal system.

12. Then why didn't this "cleaning up" begin with Siegelman? |
|
There are a thousand miscarriages of justice from the Bush DOJ.
Why did THIS one (Stevens) take priority?
The optics of this stinks. Stevens is getting off on a technicality (albeit a serious one) but Siegelman was demonstrably railroaded.
Is it that no one wants to prosecute Rove?
Sorry, but this is maddening.

13. It could be to keep the Repubs from squealing when the Siegelman case is overturned |
|
Since the Siegelman case misconduct is much more egregious.
Let's hope this is just the beginning.

Since there's NO love for Bush OR his DOJ partners-in-crime, this may be a way to "appease" the more rabid Holder bashers.
Indeed, let's hope.
