Burglar paused to feed hungry cat
Police are investigating a burglary where the intruder stopped to feed a cat.

Detective Inspector Nigel Oliver, from the priority crime unit based in Southsea, said: 'Feeding a cat during a burglary is not common at all. It may have been to keep the cat in a particular part of the house.'

The burglary happened between 2pm and 9pm on Sunday, March 22, in South Parade, Southsea. After feeding the homeowner's pet the raider stole a box of fireworks and left.

Det Insp Oliver said: 'The man was absolutely certain that the sachet of cat food had been opened for the cat and we're not exactly sure what the motive for that was, it's very unusual.

3. I'm pretty certain my cats wouldn't care if a burglar fed them.
One of them is always ready to eat!

Strange that the burglar only made off with a box of fireworks. Makes me think it was someone the family knows, and likely knows their cat as well.

9. That does seem to be the most obvious reason.
Cat probably started making noise, and that kept him quiet.

11. It was probably to keep the hungry kitty from around his legs
Only a box of fireworks?

That burglar isn't playing with a full deck. I hope the law recognizes that when he's caught, and somebody who's not playing with a full deck will be caught.

Either that or it's somebody who knew those fireworks were there and was made the owner wouldn't share.

15. It was probably to stop the cat from "helping" the burglar. My cat "helps" me read the paper,
type on my keyboard, write in my journal etc. I'm sure the kitty was just trying to "help" him swipe the fire works.

Like others have posted ablove, it sounds like an inside job and the burglar knew the family and said kitty. Hilarious.

23. LOL. Yep, on Saturday mornings, my helpful kitty makes sure I wake up at the proper time:
the capricious time he thinks I should...a kindly 5 am or so, otherwise I'd just be loafing around in bed sleeping. Who else would validate his pre-dawn wide eyed squirrel sighting or feed him at his whimsical peckish time? Helper kitties are wonderful whimsical alarm clocks. Yep. :D

17. Too bad the burglar didn't pull the job during the other 23 hours...
...when the cat would be asleep. Then he wouldn't have had to take the time to feed it.

20. And the cat ate the food with no problems
Didn't sound the alarm or try to get the owner's attention at all... as long as s/he was fed, nothing else mattered. That's why I'll stick to dogs if I ever get a pet. LOL
