California Sales Tax is over 9 percent |
|
it went up, it's closer to 10 percent than 9 in some areas.
why can't anyone see the unfairness of those with less having to pay a higher percentage in taxes ?

3. Does CA have a progressive income tax? |
|
If not, they should. I want Michigan to adopt one as well. Flat taxes are unfair and sales taxes are regressive.

8. I think CA does have a progessive income tax |
|
Only 6-7 states have a flat income tax. IN, IL, and PA are a few others that I think also have a flat tax. I agree...MI needs to adopt a progressive income tax. It would be nice to get it on the 2010 ballot.

4. If the CA G-O-Piggies wouldn't have held up the budget and allowed taxes on income, |
|
those of us on the bottom rung wouldn't have such high sales taxes.
Look, I don't buy a lot of things. And I can totally afford 10% sales tax. But I don't have children or a lot of expenses. I'd happily pay even more on my income if it meant that others who aren't in my position could get a fair chance at making it financially.
But hey, multiple-millionaires will be just fine, so no one worry!

6. Please report if you have sales tax on food as well |
|
...and if so, what the rate is. Not to be confused with prepared meals in restaurants; I am talking non-prepared food at grocery stores.
I am in a state which taxes groceries at one rate, dry goods at another, and prepared foods at a higher rate, or so I am led to believe. Since I can't afford to go out to eat, I cannot tell you how much higher.
I used to live in California, but can't recall what the tax was at that time...it was back in the late 70's.

14. That's right. No taxes on groceries... yet. |
|
But if it hurts the lower-middle class and the poor, the CA G-O-Piggies will pass it pronto! Leave No Rich Millionaire Behind!

|
Edited on Fri Apr-03-09 10:25 PM by Spider Jerusalem
local taxes raise the average, but the base state tax isn't nine percent.

12. Because Arnold needs to dig himself out of a hole and he finally realized |
|
that taxes would do it, but instead of taxing the abundantly rich in California, he prefers the recessive sales tax. I probably will only buy what I can't find at yard sales and other non sales tax places only when I'm really pressed.

. . .
was 15% a few years back.
We'll pay almost anything to keep our national health care, not that we will ever lose it.
Any government that even tries to mess with our health care system will be committing political suicide.
They know it.

16. I guess I'm fortunate that I didn't get my wish to stay in the US - San Diego was sorta my dream |
|
. . .
I lived in San Dee, Bonita, Mission Valley, National City and so on illegally from 79 - 80 - was getting good business going and came back to Canada to enter legally and continue.
Too many legal barriers stopped me from returning at the time.
Now I see how it is going down there
I think I am fortunate to be "stuck" in my own country.
Of course - 30 years ago, health care was not a big concern to me.
Now it is - so I'm glad I didn't get my wish 30 years ago.
I break a leg, hip, my heart does a flip-flop?
my health care is free
I won't lose anything.
and I have no payments.
someone did me a favor by not letting me return to the States 30 years ago
