Walk around among the crowd smiling kindly while handing out definitions of the term tea-bagging. Entitle the definition, "Why they're laughing at you."

8. Show up with a cup of hot water |
|
and ask for some earl gray or chamomile.
Or post flyers advertising a real tea party (maybe advertise free tea or call it a "tea social" or an "international tea exposition") at the same time and place. Then watch the fun.

9. totally ignoring them would do the most good. |
|
Just as ignoring that hate-filled shitbag Fred Phelps would make him disappear, so not even acknowledging that these dumbasses exist would totally ruin their day. They are SOOOO hoping "disruptors" will make martyrs of them and publicize their "cause" of hating any policy of the Obama administration just for the sake of being zombified obstructinists who have no idea of what they are "protesting" or how they just hurththemselves with their moronic "beliefs" and activities.

And I don't say this out of fear.
I say it because it is exactly what the freepers have been salivating over for the past week.
They are all ginned up talking about how they are going to go after counter protestors in order to get media attention.
If DUers and all Democrats/Liberals/Progressives can just keep our eye on the ball and not be drawn into this and ignore them, so will the media.
How much attention do you think the nighttime broadcast are going to give these idiots if there is no tension or shouting or drama? Probably 1-2 minutes tops.
Leave it alone. I beg you. And once again, not because I'm afraid for you as these tea-baggers are a bunch of cowards, but because you are giving them exactly what they want.

Coverage of anti-war demonstrations, which represented a significant portion of public opinion, was horrid. I don’t trust the media at all. Their coverage of these little temper tantrums will be nothing but respectful. The stupidest statements will be bowdlerized or edited out entirely. While the media fixated on some guy in a rainbow fright wig at the anti-Bush demonstrations, they will very carefully search out the most articulate dingbats and work their commentary so that they sound at least half-baked.
Counter-demonstrators will have to be mentioned, at the very least. A free pass for the childish tea bag folks will be tacit permission for the media to present them as representing a meaningful and unopposed portion of the population.
The counter-demonstrators don’t have to engage the idiots; just being there as a dissenting presence will be sufficient.

18. Well, I guess we'll agree to disagree. I think it's a mistake. And don't know |
|
if you read the coverage they had of a tea-bagger gathering in Cincinnati a few weeks back, but the "protestors" swarmed, shouted down and chased a reporter. And guess what? That's what his story was all about: how the crowd attacked him.
I'm recounting this because I think these loons can do a great job all on their own of making themselves look like fools.
And FWIW, you are the second poster to comment on the lack of coverage of the war protest and I wholeheartedly agree. If for some reason my post came off as conflating the two, I regret it. I was just passing on some wingnuttery thinking to my fellow DUers on this BS "grass roots movement" and would never mean an ounce of disrespect or comparison to all those noble folks that marched in Washington against the war.

21. Yes, that's why I counseled not engaging with the protestors |
|
I think it would be enough to have a presence with signs or whatever. Getting into it with these chowderheads is about as useful as getting into it with the Fred Phelps gang, which is to say not at all. But a quiet counterdemonstration has the effect of saying to the media folks that the demonstration isn't the only opinion out there.

or more properly - since they're pig ignorant fickwits who dont know American History - educate them as to the fact that the original Boston Tea Party was a response to a tax cut on a large multi-national corporation.
