I am so sick of hearing and reading about "tea bagging" |
|
It feels like we give a bit of credibility to their idiocy by using their inappropriate term.
I'm not a prude. I think my brain refuses to accept that "tea bagging" is a term relevant to politics (unless Larry Craig is also in the subject).
I will now call them "tea protests", and "tea protesters".
Thank you for permitting my short rant.

1. I think maybe you are missing the point. |
|
We use the term "teabagging" precisely because it's obscene and the teabaggers apparently don't know it. It makes them seem even more clueless and absurd.
So I intend to keep saying it.
Teabag. Teabag. Teabag.

11. But it's acquiescing. |
|
They think it means taping Lipton tea bags to your hat and spending 40 minutes in a city park.
That is not what tea bagging is all about!

15. Not at all. It's mocking them. |
|
They think they're patriots. They think they're reenacting the Boston Tea Party. We know they're idiots because they are promoting their silly gatherings using a term that has amusingly obscene connotations, and apparently nobody has mentioned it to them. I think "teabagging" is really hilarious.

2. But "tea-baggers" is the term of the common man or woman, the term |
|
with its sleeves rolled up and its teeth uneven, a term unfazed by coarse speech or conditions.
"Baggers" alone is one of those 2-syllable juicy nouns that have unlimited appeal in times when politics and culture intersect.
Witness "carpetbaggers."

10. No, I'm gunning for the "taste" of the words. Their phonetic zeal for |
|
our ears.
"Tea-baggers" is the term of choice not because of media ubiquity but because it crunches in our ears like Dr. Octopus stepping on Aunt May's bifocals.

14. A caller had a great teabagger story today: |
|
It seems that the caller's grandmother is a member of a group of elder women who like to follow a round of golf with a spot of tea. They call themselves the Tea Baggers.
When the grandson explained the term in its modern context, the Baggers apparently stopped wearing their t-shirts. But they kept the name.

8. Um. I don't think they think the term is inappropriate because |
|
they have no freakin' clue what we are laughing about.
I doubt too many of them have seen any John Waters' films.
So how can we be giving them any credibility while we laugh hysterically at their, ahem, nuttiness?

It's rather distracting from the uncomfortable issues of torture, state secrets privilege, domestic spying, IMPEACHMENT.

I should never underestimate the ability to be misunderstood: be specific.
Impeach Cheney! Then see what befalls this cabal that seems to consider itself above mere laws.
