The right wing media is pushing hard for 2 more wars-
one against Somalia (sorry, but if you push for attacking pirate strongholds, you're pushing for a war against Somalia) and one against North Korea. Wingnut pols are joining the cry. Can blue dog dems be far behind?

1. They Also Want To Replay The Civil War...
Typical chickenshit bullshit (what a smelly mess that is). Remember, the GOOP lives in a world of hatred, fear and paranoia. They hang onto their guns and bravado as the only solution to problems...no matter how complicated they are. They find simplistic answers that work well into talking points and give them an escape hatch when they have to try to justify it. Above all, they know how to play the corporate media to feed the narrative of constant conflict and controversy.

We saw how well the rushpublican are when it comes to "defending" the country (bin Laden been caught yet??) or in dealing with "rogue nations"...and we have nearly 6,000 dead Americans to show for it and nothing else. But they can talk big...especially now after the electorate decided that they not only were to be trusted with running a government but no longer can be taken seriously.

BTW...you forgot to add China, Venezuela, Cuba, Iran and the Grand Duchy of Fenwick to that list.

Cheers...

2. Same old story
when they don't have a war they will invent one. Even if it is Grenada or Panama. Hell the RW even made a movie about Grenada. Someone should look into what inspired that fucking movie. I mean who got it started.

3. They Need A Boogieman
It's how they get power and use it. The Soviets were the ideal boogieman...kept the "rank and file" scared cue to "socialism" or "communism" or "athiesm" or whatever fear you wanted to put out there. Also, it serves their masters well as a whipped up enemy...be it an Ivan or Mohammed or Fidel means lots of money flowing to their defense contractor and lobbyist puppetmasters.

Grenada came right on the smoldering ruins of Raygun's failed Lebanon misadventure that led to the bombing of the Marine baracks. In typical rushpublican fashion, to "regain faith", he had to attack something/anything (sound familiar)...also to let his So. Cal. defense buddies to show off their new toys...it'd been over a decade since Vietnam and they wanted to see if they worked.

This pirate situation reminded me of the early days of boooshie...few have mentioned about when our spy plane was intercepted by the Chinese and forced to land. They kept the plane but let go of the crew...an early "test" for boooshie that he failed and IMHO energized his chickenhawks to jump on Iraq when the opportunity presented itself (9/11) to, again, save face and pay off their defense contractor buddies.

It gets very predicatble.

6. You wouldn't mean "Heartbreak Ridge" with Clint Eastwood?
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 08:04 AM by Democracyinkind
That is one of the most stupid imperialist propaganda shit pieces I have ever seen. That movie haunts me. As a kid I consumed that kind of shit and with other things such movies were responsible for the cognitive dissonance I had when I first opened up a real history book. Grenada is one of those things that stinks to the sky yet nobody has ever gotten into the MSM with the legit questions about what exactly motivated us there...

Nazi shit movie. just thinking of it makes me angry. That movie is so bad I'm surprised Steven Seagal didn't star in it.

4. that's what I was gonna say
They're stocking up on guns so they'll be ready for the fight, AT HOME.
Their brainiacs are crying on TV about the end of our proud country.

It's US against the world.. also US against ourselves.

Some horrible old women I was working with last week were hinting that our country is taken over somehow.. lost to some power that's here to undermine US all.
These same people didn't mind showing me how racist they are at other times.. I know exactly what their limits are.
They just don't seem to realize this is still a Democracy.

Over a THIRD of Americans don't believe in evolution.. and I'm supposed to feel good about my neighbors stocking up on guns? :eyes:

(sorry, I'm having a pissed-off morning so far..)

5. A Lesson From The 60's...
I see some similarities with the rhetoric of the far right today with those of the Weathermen, SDS and SNICC back in the 60's. Those groups also saw a need to rise up violently, if needed, to "inflict justice" or fairness. Those that chose the path of "revolution" soon found that many who voice solidarity sure weren't going to blow themselves up for it. In time the movement lost a lot of its momentum and the liberal/progressive movement splintered as all the protesting seemed to fall on deaf ears.

The astroturfing of "outrage" as the latest GOOP propaganda tool is a dangerous one. It surely is to all of us as there surely are nuts and "lone wolves" out there who will snap blaming President Obama or "libruls" or some other fear as "justification", but the end result could be to alienate and scare the people they're trying to get attention from. As the violence at the 1968 DNC and the Days of Rage would be used to discredit liberal and Democrats for years, such a reaction from the right could have a similar effect...further destroying the rushpublicans rather than unite them.

I don't blame you for being pissed off...be vigilent and connected. While you don't want to give these goons too much publicity, we can't let them go underground either.

Cheers...

9. Your concerns are valid.
The right wing extremists are heavily armed in this country. And every little peep about an assault weapons ban is used as evidence President Obama is going to take our guns away. Funny, these same NRA types convinced this same gullible group that Bill and Hillary had designs on their guns. What happened? No guns were taken away. Yet they still think their argument reasonable.

10. They're so caught up in rhetoric that they don't see reality.
The dems have not taken their guns away & the repubs have not reversed Roe v Wade, but they keep voting repub.

12. Yeah.
If they were truly interested in reversing Roe vs Wade they would have done so already. But their gullible followers just keep on believing.

14. Plenty of Dems and indies own "assault weapons" too...
Edited on Tue Apr-14-09 08:19 PM by benEzra
the term being scare-speak for the most popular civilian rifles in the United States.

The DLC/Third Way corporatists did indeed fight very hard to ban them for a while, though the pendulum seems to have shifted away from new bans now. The MSM wants one badly a la 1994, though.

15. The far right's 20%
is shrinking. No one cares what they want or think. The time for the fringe running this country has passed. Another stolen election would have brought about insurrection.
