I understand "tough on crime". I also understand "soft on crime". What I don't understand ...

I understand "tough on crime". I also understand "soft on crime". What I don't understand ...
... is people who complain about the "soft on crime" folks.

On some days I think everyone should just get along. And if someone makes a mistake, we should give them a second chance. Resocialization and all that. On other days, maybe triggered by hearing about some particularly bad crime, I may be thinking "damn we should lock all crooks up and throw away the key".

Hell, often I guess it is even influenced how my day was at work or whether my stomach is full.

But never will I understand the people who actually devote time and effort to complain about "soft on crime" types, perhaps even write books about it and whatnot.

You are free to be angry of course, but why not just leave the people who don't share your anger out of it?

1. Giving a second chance is fine
depending on what they did. Big difference between shop lifting and rape.
