Iglasias, the NM Fed atty that was fired 'could' be helping
my friend if he had not been fired.

She was stalked by her ex (from Illinois). Beaten up with police reports and witnesses. It culminated in him stalking her, ramming her car off the road, yanking her out of the car in front of MANY witnesses whom he threatened w/ a gun (one shared my name - not common???!)

The State and the Feds are arguing over who will take the case..... Across State lines - doesn't it seem obvious?

I'm only posting out of frustration..... Can anyone mitigate my frustration?

1. Your friend's situation sounds awful. She should go to the cops and...
...write to the judge who issued the divorce decree. If it's turned into a stalking thing, the judge has the power to issue restraining orders, which do carry legal weight across state lines.

It doesn't sound like a typical US Attorney issue, but it wouldn't hurt to call and talk to people at the USAtty office to find out about enforcement issues and her legal rights. Lots of communities have women's shelters that have people experienced in dealing with these kinds of abuse/stalking cases. Absolutely look one of those up.

But file complaints with the cops first thing. She must establish a paper record to back up any legal actions she has to take.

It wouldn't hurt to take her out to a gun range and do a little target practice either. That Second Amendment ain't there for the rhyme scheme.

3. You are my kinda person
I have given her all of this advice.

She was kidnapped and taken across the border to CO...Many witnesses. This IS a BIG DEAL. However, the current powers that be don't seem to give a shit.

Fortunately the News media is slavering over her.

4. a restraining order is of little use against a violent ex
She needs a legal paper trail, but she should also (IF at all possible) move (at least temporarily), and change her routines as much as she can to try to shake this guy.

Many of the women who are killed by ex's have restraining orders in place.

5. You're basing that on what, Lifetime Television movies? Yes, restraining orders work.
Violent hubbies & ex-hubbies are basically cowards. I worked for two years with a family charity that had to regularly help women get restraining orders and they always worked.

6. Southern Maryland is what I am basing it on. Lived there for years.
There were all too frequent newspaper articles about women who were killed by abusive ex's EVEN THO THEY HAD restraining orders.

Was it really necessary for you to respond in such a snide, sarcastic fashion - "You're basing that on what, Lifetime TV movies?"

2. I'll kick this
Because I don't know how many understand the 'REAL WORLD' results of incompetent individuals in powerful positions.

PS - she had 2 pieces of BBGun scrapnel removed from her eye 2 days ago.... she still has a good amt in her head and bod.

His charges are likely to be dropped due to the NM USA persona 'not giving a shit'
