<snip>Connie DeVita, 45, of Pemberwick, is among one of the newest military mothers in town. Two weeks ago, her 19-year-old son left home to attend Marine boot camp. He and his family expect that a year from now, he will be serving in Iraq.

"Honestly I would like for them to not send any troops to Iraq," DeVita said. "But I'm supportive of my son and what he wants to do and how he feels."

DeVita said she also supports the president and defers to him when it comes to deciding when the troops should return from Iraq.

"How can I assess that?" she asked. "As a mother, how can I assess it? I would like it to be done right away but of course, I know that's not a possibility."

5. Please don't ...

Please don't criticize military mothers. The truth is that we all defer to someone in these decisions. None of us have a policy apparatus available to us that can personally advise us. The best we can do is pick from a host of politicos and select the plan that looks best to us.

You won't score any political points by bashing military Mom's. At least you won't score any points with HUMAN BEINGS!!!

8. Wanting the troops home right away is hardly...
...drinking Kool-Aid, and isn't exactly supporting the president, either.

4. I hope I'm never so jaded that I don't feel sympathy for this woman.
She's rightly proud of her son for serving his country.

But it's telling that says "I defer to the president" rather than "the president is making the right choice."
