Is Specter gonna get Franken seated?
Edited on Tue Apr-28-09 01:01 PM by backscatter712
Saw this on the front page of Kos...
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/4/28/725361/-Specter-switch:-Every-silver-lining-has-a-cloud!

Update by kos: Guys, check out the link. It's an important one. In short -- without a new organizing resolution, Specter uses up a Republican seat in every committee he sits on. Obviously, Republicans will want a new organizing resolution.

But what if Democrats balk until Franken is seated?

Ooh, now we have something to club Rethugs over the head with until they quit opposing democracy and give Franken the seat he was elected to serve in.

UPDATE: Second, more comprehensive Kos article:

1. I'm starting to wonder if God himself can seat Franken
I mean, just how fucking long is this going to drag on? Isn't there some kind of Constitutional guarantee of representation?

5. Apparently to the Republicans....
They can drag it out as long as they want, and never have to concede a loss, even when the courts say so.

However, Democrats must immediately acknowledge they got their ass kicked as soon as FAUX newz calls the election.

2. Spector probably wants to stay on the commitees he's on.
makes you wonder what kind of deals were made.

9. The GOP's going to want their committee seats back from Spector.
They want the seats in the committees apportioned with Republicans getting the numbers of seats they negotiated for.

Some of those seats that the Republicans have claim to are occupied by Spector.

In order to allocate them to a different Republican, a new organizing resolution is required. Of course, the deal for Spector switching means he stays in committees, but that implies that he'll take a Democratic seat.

But we can withhold the organizing resolution until Franken gets seated - definitely a powerful club we can beat the GOP over the head with...

3. On the contrary, I think this will force repugs to
drag it out as long as possible.

6. In June the MN Supreme Court will uphold the decision of the 3 judge panel
and order that Franken be certified and then he will be seated.

7. Yes, they will. And there's no faster alternative.
Those of you who do not live in Minnesota are going to have to wait for Minnesota election laws to operate. That's just the way it is.

10. It's nice to hear from someone from MN who actually knows the facts of the case
rather than opinions.
