Worried about support for a coservative (Arlen) in the primary? Two words: Ned Lamont |
|
The conservative, establishment choice Democrat can be beaten in the Democratic primary.
Ned Lamont beat a sitting, **long time** incumbent and **lifelong** Democrat in the Democratic primary.
Specter can, if need be, be beaten in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary.
It may not be necessary, but have no doubt. It CAN be done.

1. I am going to rec this on the off-chance somehow it gets back to Specter. |
|
Maybe he'll be a bit more flexible about his opinions if he knows this isn't quite the safety net he was hoping for.

2. Specter has no choice but to become more liberal |
|
the alternative was involuntary retirement in the Republican primary. Since he came pleading to the Democrats for a place, they can set any conditions of behavior they want on him. Specter will completely be under Democratic leadership leverage if he wants to survive.

3. It can be done, and if it does happen, Specter's fucked in the general. |
|
He switched parties to avoid the exact situation that would occur if he lost the Dem primary: a Dem on his left, with that party's massive support and fundraising, and Toomey on his right, with the remaining GOP base and national GOP cash locked up.

4. Is there a state law in PA that would keep Arlen from inventing a bullshit party like Holy Joe did |
|
and running again in the general for the seat he lost?
In many states, if you lose the primary, you're out of the race. If Connecticut had been one of them, Lieberdouche would have been gone. What's the law in PA?
