The Democratic Party Should Grant All Sorts of Perks to Specter |
|
Yep, give him a chairmanship.
Make sure he gets support from the DSCC.
Talk up ole Arlen every chace you get.
It's time to break the lockstep mentality of of the GOP, and this is how you do it. Show all those on the other side who have considered a switch how green the grass is on the other side of teh fence.

1. Only if he gives us the *votes* we need (on EFCA, etc.). Otherwise, no. |

When you switch to the Democratic Party, you had better vote Democratic.

4. I have a sneaking suspicion |
|
that Specter got a lot of flack from unions after he came out against EFCA but after voting for the stim, there was no way he could switch positions and remain in the GOP. This was a long time coming but I think EFCA is the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.
And hey, is he really any further to the right than Bayh?

6. We'll find out soon, what he's like when he has pressure from Democratic primary voters rather than |
|
Republican primary voters.

My guess is based on timing and how well an anti-union stance goes over in Pennsylvania. Wet dogs come to mind.

3. INstead, how about letting him prove his good intentions first. Only then, after he shows |
|
a solid Democratic-voting scorecard for the rest of this term, does he get any support from Dems in 2010. Personally, I would not give him anything, even in the unlikely case that he improves his voting record in the next year. Just take his vote and then send him into retirement.

Better yet, why don't we all just move over to the Republican party? That would actually hurt the right wing, rather than helping it as welcoming Specter in does, After all, if the goal is one big happy centrist moderate corporate-owned party, what difference does it make what name we hang on it?
I don't know, maybe people have a lot invested in merchandise and memorabilia with the word "Democratic" stenciled on it. That would explain things, I guess.
The Republicans probably wouldn't have us, unless we changed our views, though, and would refuse to support us unless we did. Apparently, many Democrats don't have any such scruples and are demanding that none of us do.
