A crematoria has been found in our client Colombia but Venezuela gets bashed
Edited on Sat May-02-09 07:30 PM by EFerrari
by the new State Department report on terrorism?

Uneffingbelievable.

Chavez has repeatedly told the FARC in Colombia to lay down their arms but the new State Department report nags at Venezuela, Bushlike, for failing to cooperate on the "War on Terror".

Here is a VenAnalysis article on that report. They are Venezuela supporters but I've never found them to be factually incorrect:

http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/news/4416

Can we embarrass ourselves any more? BushCo said the same thing about Venezuela and the "War on Drugs" when Venezuela tossed the DEA out of the country -- and their drug interdictions DOUBLED after that.

The Torture President sure left a big mess for Obama and plenty of his people at State. Meanwhile, crematoria have been found in Colombia to destroy all the bodies of the people slaughtered by the CIA backed, Uribe backed right wing paramilitaries.

http://www.laht.com/article.asp?ArticleId=333321&CategoryId=12393

The State Department hasn't issued a statement on this -- maybe because Uribe in Colombia was one of the last lapdog's they had.

Obama is sitting at a buffet of horrible problems. But, I wish he'd issue an order not to condemn anyone in Latin America until he disinfects the government. Because the burrowers are doing their best, even at this moment, to tank his new presidency's reputation in Latin America.

Here's yet another instance. An assassination plot against Evo Morales in Bolivia was (thankfully) disrupted at the end of April. There are four guys in custody. The investigation is turning up evidence that the CIA front group, Human Rights Foundation, funded it. DUer magbana posted this translation of an article written by a writer living in Cuba. I've checked it out as best as I can and, it seems to be right:

May 1, 2009 – Granma (Habana)

Armando Valladares’s CIA Group Linked to Plot Against Evo Morales

Jean-Guy Allard
English translation: Machetera

On Thursday, April 30, the Bolivian Public Prosecutor identified Hugo Achá Megar, identified by AFP as the Bolivian representative of the U.S. NGO, Human Rights Foundation (HRF), as the main funder of the terrorist gang taken apart on April 16 in Santa Cruz, while it was hatching the plan to assassinate President Evo Morales.

The HRF is a New York organization known for its interventionist activities and its links with the CIA, and whose Secretary General is the terrorist of Cuban origin, Armando Valladares.

Prosecutor Sosa, who is directing the investigations in this case, identified Achá, a.k.a. “Superman,” along with Alejandro Melgar, a.k.a. “El Lucas” as members and financiers of the plot.

From the United States, where he is presently, in statements to a La Paz television station, Achá rejected the claims against him but admitted that he had met “four or five times” with the leader of the murderous gang, the Hungarian-Bolivian Eduardo Rózsa-Flores.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=405x14696

The BFEE is at war with Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador -- as they will be with anyone who tries to disrupt their rapine there. They have left people behind at State, at CIA and at the Pentagon. It will be a while before Obama's broom sweeps clean. I hope no leader of a progressive democracy in Latin America gets killed before that happens.

This might sound like hash and I apologize in advance. But there is no "past" to our offenses in Latin America if some element in our government is still trying to kill Evo Morales and if State is still overlooking that.

Cleaning up those goons will be no easy task. The way they've corrupted the Human Rights groups is frightening.

2. "Intervention" by NGO is an old game. But, this one in Bolivia
is not really an NGO but a front group. The founder was a CIA operative in El Salvador and in Nicaragua. No one has ever heard of them but they have fancy digs on 5th Avenue. They are only active in Venezuela, Ecuador and in Bolivia. Oh, and in Bolivia, they have nothing in La Paz but only in Santa Cruz where the white supremacist secessionists are.

4. They are claiming that they are an independent entity
from the one chartered in NYC. We'll have to see. He named them in his May 1 speech and advised them that foreign NGOs that tried to overthrow the elected government of Bolivia would be booted out of the country.

I still haven't run down what they are to Stanford. They're only connection may be CIA.

5. Yes, this the excruciating hypocrisy, and irony, and filthy corruption of the Bush Junta
policy in Latin America. You have nailed it exactly: "A crematoria has been found in our client Colombia but Venezuela gets bashed."

Venezuela has no crematoriums, where they 'disappear' the evidence of their heinous crimes. Its government has no death squads killing thousands of union leaders, human rights workers, peasant farmers and other innocent people who merely advocate for the poor. In Venezuela, you get help if you are poor--access to education, health care and other bootstrapping services. You are encouraged to vote. Your rights are respected. You don't get tortured and thrown into a mass grave for asserting your rights and trying to improve your lot. All of these dreadful things occur routinely in Colombia, perpetrated by the Colombian military and its closely tied rightwing paramilitary death squads, all supported with $6 BILLION in U.S. military aid, and propping up a fascist government that benefits from the torture, murder and oppression of the poor majority, with many members of the government also closely tied to the death squads, as well as to the cocaine traffic.

Our policy in Latin America is a farce, and, what is more, it is known to be a farce--and a corrupt and murderous enterprise--by most Latin American leaders and peoples. It is hypocritical beyond belief. Venezuela gets bashed--a country where democracy is flourishing, and where, at long last, they have a good government that attends to the interests of all Venezuelans, not just the rich oil elite. Their leader gets demonized, and the leaders of Colombia--that extremely corrupt, foul narco-state--get given U.S. "Medals of Freedom." It is disgusting. It is immoral. It is wrong. And it could well be disastrous for U.S./Latin American relations for the rest of the century.

6. We have to do something. Or else, the assassination will go forward
before Obama can tend to the situation.

I don't pretend to know what. But if something happens to Evo Morales and I do nothing, I will NEVER be able to live with myself.

We need to call, to write, to shed light somehow. It can't be too late. Maybe if there is enough noise, the thing will be postponed.

9. Vice president says Morales' life still in danger

====================================

===============================

Vice President Álvaro García Linera said today that those who financed the mercenaries (who intended to kill Morales) remain at large and the weapons shown in confiscated photos were still in the hands of some criminal.

García said "this is a very dangerous moment for the life of President Evo and for those of us who accompany him."

García called on Bolivia's "social movements" to provide security when Morales visits their communities.

"You have the obligation to gather, to talk, to say the life of President Evo is in danger, the life of the nation is in danger and to observe, to see that nothing happens."

10. One of the biggest problem for Obama in latin America is that he depends on
the same bureaucrats that all past presidents democrats and republicans used. I don't expect to see a real radical change in policies in the US but latin america is changing and adapting new strategies except for those dino governments who subsist from the dollar they receive from our government.

20. As with the tortures we need a truth commission
This insanity and fascism going back decades from Peron to Pinochet and on to the coup against Chavez and now Morales has been backed by fascist elements in our government. The shadow entities with CIA "connections" to the private contractor death squads have all the earmarks of what Hunter Thompson called the "Fourth Reich".

Fact is that so much power and wealth was amassed under the Bushes for private fascist military-intel enterprises in Latin America (and globally), so much evil done, that what we need is to throw open the archives, disclose the secrets, prosecute the perpetrators, and set new policies based on a recognition that WE financed this, we allowed it to happen and the criminals are in our midst and are our responsibility.

If we ignore it, as with the torture, it will only fester and resume when it is safer for them to come out of the shadows -- or rather it will continue in the shadows...

22. Is that even possible? I don't know. Miami would have to fall into the ocean first.
The very State Department guy assigned to help Obama at the OAS Summit was one of these manipulators, albeit a small time one who works in a bureaucracy. I didn't know it until later. But, just as with the torture program, Obama is surrounded by these compromised individuals in many departments.

They've always thought of and treated Latin America the way the American West was treated by the East -- theirs for the taking. It's not really a matter of decades but of hundreds of years, of the history of the United States. The slaughter of indigenous people continues unabated. It's still American policy and it's happening right now in Latin America. We haven't stopped. Is it possible to have a Truth Commission if the crime is ongoing?

According to the The New York Times Halvorssen was born in Venezuela into privilege and is a descendant of Venezuela's first two presidents Cristobal Mendoza and Simon Bolivar through his maternal lineage: Mendoza. On his father's side he is the grandson of Oestein Halvorssen, the Norwegian king’s consul who "built a family dynasty as the Venezuelan representative for corporations including Dunlop and Ericsson."

And Thor hangs with these guys...

The wiki article shows him to have a few layers, though, having championed anti-slave labor policies in China.

13. If it follows his pattern, that resolves to being anti-China
more than anti-slavery. When I first started looking at this guy, it was confusing because he seems to do stuff that is commendable. But when you look closer, his "good works" follow a sort of Cold Warish pattern of finding fault with his "enemies".

It's funny that wiki gives his pedigree in those terms. Translation: his family is old Venezuelan aristocracy and they want to make sure you know they are Spanish and Norwegian without a drop of indigenous or black blood. :)

14. I found this bit about him from Eva Golinger:
Edited on Sun May-03-09 04:39 AM by EFerrari

Trans:

THM: son of Thor Halvorssen Hellum, the Venezuelan-Norweigean ex-president of CANTV during the administration of Carlos Andres Perez in the 1970s. Then, he served as the Venezuelan drug czar and worked as an agento of the DEA and CIA. In fact, Halvorssen has admitted "working with" the CiA although he denies being an "agent". What Halvorssen may not understand is that an "agent" is precisely someone who "works with" the CIA. In fact, Halvorssen worked with the CIA in El Salvador and in Nicaragua during the dirty wars of the 80s, and was a close collaborator of the Contra leader, Adolfo Calero. In 1993, Halvorssen was arrested and jailed for 74 days, charged with having participated in an act of terrorism (a series of bombing attacks in Caracas meant to influence the stock market and the economic climate). THM, also the son of one of the wealthiest families in Venezuela, the Mendozas, has participated as a commentator on Fox News, including one appearance with Rev. Pat Robertson when Robertson declared that it was necessary to assasinate President Hugo Chavez. Halvorssen is president of the HRF.

Edit to add: I think that Jean-Guy Allard got it wrong in his article about the Morales plot. It was Thor Sr. that admitted to being CIA and who was arrested for terrorist activity, not Jr. That may be splitting hairs as Jr. seems to be very comfortably ensconced with his dad's buddies.

16. Wall Street LOVES Columbia and HATES Venezuela.
One man's terrorist is another man's business opportunity.

NYSE's Grasso met with Colombia's FARC.

Fiscal policy has to do with who gets the taxpayers' money. In Columbia, it's the top 1-percent of the population get the biggest piece of the action. In Venezuela, these days, the 99-percent who usually get nothing are getting more. And that pisses off Wall Street and Washington, which seem, these days, to be the same thing. Background:

FARC: "terrorists" or "belligerents"?

The lesson for the USA, where jobs have vanished and the taxpayers are asked to pick up the bill. We may soon be just like those groups in Latin America who have to fight for the crumbs that fall off the table.

17. No surprise. We know the death squads are tied to the regime in Colombia.
In 1986, I was told in Guatemala, the People know it is the government that does these things.

"In this morning's paper there is a story of three dead men found by the garbage dump gleaners. The three bodies had tied hands and legs, were gagged, had been tortured and had gunshot wounds. They had been killed by strangulation, wrapped in large plastic bags and dumped. People sifting and searching the landfill for food or useful items opened the bags. Last night on the sidewalk I had a conversation with an individual who I must not name to protect this person from the guilty. I was warned to be careful about what I say. This person said that if one is noticed opposing the government or speaking out nothing happens immediately but they determine where you sleep and at night two carloads of judicial police enter your residence, take you away and you are never seen again. I was also told that the people live in fear, that it is unwise to venture more than a few blocks from your home because you do not know when a policeman might ask for your identification, and that the officials claim that guerrillas do these things, adding that the people know that it is the police and soldiers who are responsible. ... When the same new Jeep passed a second time we quickly disappeared into the night. ..."

18. The CIA/BFEE/Nazi links go waaay back
I have been lurking at DU for some time and this is my first post because I am a researcher on fascism and Latin America in particular and this is a critically important story which i would have missed if it wasn't for DU .

Thanks for posting it with the links which are frighteningly good evidence.

Crematoria are the hallmarks of fascist genocide and are a direct link to Naziism and Third Reich (now Fourth Reich) mentality.

The Nazis used their fith column to infiltrate and obtain citizenship and political and military power in Latin America going back to the 1920's and '30's. I think Hitler's operative Rohm was there as early as 1928 establishing their Nazi network.

In the 1940's their coup in Argentina brought them into power using Peron and was part of an alliance of fascist generals and agents in Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia and Ecuador. Rockefeller and the Bushes et all were backing those alliances as they were backing Hitler. Then the CIA became their principal arm after WWII in "promoting" wall street corporofascist business interests.

It was an is an intergenerational operation which continues today with many of the same modus operandi that the Nazis used and many actual German Nazis pulling the strings behind the governments of fascist Latin America.

That US operators still back such Nazi-like operations as crematoria, assassination and coup attempts tells me that Obama must make this a priority: to normalize relations with progressive states and identify these entities behind such crimes as terrorists - prosecute them, promote truth and reconciliation and full disclosure with prosecutions and some immunity for testimony and compensation to these peoples and nations for these crimes hatched and perpetrated from Langley and the NSC and darth cheney's halls of power

But most importantly Obama much make this a priority asap. His relations regarding Latin America and his handling of these issues is, for me, a key litmus test of whether he really is on the side of humanity or on the side of corporofascist wall street.

Thanks for this piece. Since I am too new to recommend it i am hoping I can at least kick it!
