I am thinking about switching my teaching area to Elem Special ED IR position...any one out there? |
|
I am certified and Highly qualified in 5-12 Social Studies
also Highly qualified in k-12 sped
currently I am teaching Middle school 7 and 8 social studies but have been strongly thinking about looking into elementary sped
It has been 3 years since I taught sped, but I teach all of our sped students in my room currently.
What kinds of testing would I be responsible for doing? Would I be going into other teachers classrooms or would I have students coming to me for intensive support?
Just thinking about my options and wanting something new that is more fullfilling and meaningful for the children

1. Don't know about qualifications but |
|
I have a great deal of respect for those who teach Special Ed. Those kids need help so much, and becuase you are concerned, I think you would find much fulfillment there.

6. There's different kinds of sped though. Some is remedial help, some is behavioral, some is |
|
for severe and profoundly challenged children. Depending on the size of the school you might have a different room each with its own staff for each one of those issues, so if you felt you could do the remedial help but not the other two that would be an option. :)

9. I teach at a College of Last Resort. I teach HS at the 13th & 14th grade level to Young Mothers |
|
with dreams of escaping their early mistakes.
I've looked at the circumstance and I am pretty sure I couldn't do elementary level with these women's younger siblings and children.

4. Best person to answer those questions is the director of sped in one of your area |
|
elementary schools.
My mom taught sped for years and loved it. She really enjoyed having one on one time with her kids.

7. Not about the recess duty. My mom had to do it same as all the rest of the staff. That is |
|
a crazy late time to get out of school. I'd hate that.

8. Look into becoming a BACB Behavior Analyst. |
|
They do well in special ed divisions and can always make a bunch of money in the summer if they wish or with side work.
